Raspberry Pi: it's a geek's low-cost dream for a basic HTPC, but due to the time difference between the U.S. and Britain I've yet to be able to get my hands on one in the brief windows that they've been available for. Sigh. So my hopes skyrocketed when VIA announced its Pi look-alike, the $50 APC 8750. And joy of joys, it went up for preorder today! …then promptly sold out in a matter of hours, before I was able to snap one up. Double sigh.
In a bid to create more of a one-stop-shopping experience for Bulldozer-loving overclocking fanatics, AMD recently announced plans to roll out a FX-8150 bundled with a liquid cooler a little while back. There were just a few problems: at $370 to $400, the kit was really expensive, and it still hasn't actually become available yet. Despite that, a new, similar kit pairing a liquid cooler with a FX-8120 proc has popped up online.
The battle for itty-bitty computing supremacy is heating up, out of seemingly nowhere. The diminutive Raspberry Pi should be shipping any day now (in fact, its website promises a big announcement on Feb. 29th) and bringing its $35 1080p video capabilities with it. And if that wasn't enough tastily named micro-computing news, FXI announced that its USB key-esque Cotton Candy minicomputer is now available for preorder, too.

A few weeks back we shined a spotlight on the Spark tablet, a Linux-based open source tablet being cobbled together by KDE developer Aaron Seigo. Yesterday, it went up for preorder. Time to whip out those credit cards, Linux lovers! Oh, wait, never mind -- the site doesn't force you to whip out the plastic to land a spot in line for a Spark.
Can you tell we're pumped about Minecraft-themed Legos? We've been anxiously following their development, breathlessly reporting when the petition to create the set passed the needed 10,000 signature mark -- and when the project got the official green light. Lego and Mojang must be pumped about the Minecraft Micro World, too; in less than a month, the set has flown through the design process and is headed to the production line. In fact, Lego started selling preorders for the set yesterday.
Usually, shaving accessories are generally regarded as a cop-out last-resort gift for the guys on your holiday shopping list. Disposable Bics still suck as presents, but the new $2,800 high-end laptop Razer’s putting out is decidedly cooler – and even though it hasn’t been released yet, you might just be able to find one under your Christmas tree this year. And hey, Razer managed to pull a Santa and hide a secret upgrade gift inside the Razer, too.
Hot on the heels of our review of the Blu-ray-like Acer Revo RL100-UR20P Lenovo has released a new, slim nettop that it claims is the teeny tiniest desktop to be found in all the land. The diminutive IdeaCentre Q180 comes in a couple different configurations, all of which run on a 2.13 GHz Intel Atom D2700 CPU and an AMD Radeon HD 6450A GPU. That won’t have you playing Crysis any time soon, but streaming HD video should be no problem.
There's a reason your mother was always telling you to clean your room as a kid and to keep your things organized. She was training you for times like this when, after waiting more than a decade for a game you preordered, you'd be able to waltz into your local GameStop with receipt in hand and get your copy before everyone else. Yes folks, GameStop is honoring those preorders from long ago, provided you held onto the necessary paperwork.
