EVGA this week rolled out a new version of its Precision "Advanced Graphics Tuning" software, a utility used to monitor your graphics card(s) and overclock. Four sliders let you adjust the core clockspeed, shader clockspeed, memory clockspeed, and fan speed on up to four GPUs, while temps and speeds are displayed in a real-time monitor on the left-hand side of the UI.
EVGA this week rolled out a new version of its Precision overclocking software. Now in version 2.1.1, EVGA's Precision utility comes with an integrated GPU Voltage Tuner, and it's now capable of auto-detecting GeForce GTX 580 graphics cards. EVGA said it updated some spelling in Precision v2.1.1 and beefed up the on-screen display (OSD), too.
We had a feeling Dell might soon be releasing its Precision M4600 and M6600 laptops when a leaked product manual made waves on the Web, and it turns out we were right. Dell today officially announced these two new models, which the OEM is pitching as the world's most powerful 15.6-inch (M4600) and 17.3-inch (M6600) mobile workstations. Let's take a peek at the specs.
Starcraft fans take note - EVGA's latest update to its Precision overclocking utility -- version 1.9.6 -- comes with a Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty on-screen display profile for Logitech G-series keyboard LCDs.
For those of you who aren't into Starcraft, there's still plenty of goodies baked this latest version. Some of the features include:
Independent or Synchronous control for fan and clock settings in a multi-GPU system
Allows up to 10 profiles, and ability to assign hotkeys to these profiles to allow in-game
Ability to view temperatures in the system tray
Core/Shader Clock Link/Unlink capability

A handful of Dell Precision Workstations are now coming equipped with ATI FirePro V7800, V5800, and V4800 professional graphics cards, AMD announced this week.
"AMD and Dell are working together to offer workstation users a combined solution designed for reliable performance and demanding application support," said Janet Matsuda, senior director, AMD Professional Graphics. :Our new generation of ATI FirePro professional graphics cards enable Dell to offer workstations that accelerate ATI Stream-enabled software applications and deliver unique features, such as ATI Eyefinity technology, enabling increased productivity by way of expanded screen real estate."
On the lower end, ATI's FirePro V4800 features 1GB of GDDR5 memory and is available with Dell Precision R5400, T1500, T3500, T5500, and T7500 Workstations. Moving up to the mid-range, the V5800 also comes with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, but double the performance over previous-gen FirePro parts. And on the high-end, the V7800 ups the ante with 2GB of RAM in a single-slot form factor. Both the V5800 and V7800 are available on Dell Precision R5400, T3500, T5500, and T7500 Workstations.
Want to make waves in the mobile market? Slap a Core i7 Extreme Edition processor into a 15.6-inch chassis and call it the "world's most powerful" mobile workstation in its size class.
That's exactly what Dell has done with its just-announced Precision M4500. In addition to the super fast processor, the M4500 also boasts Nvidia Quadro FX 1800M graphics, an optional SSD MiniCard (another first for 15.6-inch mobile workstations), an optional HD+ sRGB LED screen, optional 3MP camera, and support for 32-bit and 74-bit versions of Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, and XP, as well as Red Hat Linux 5.3 64-bit support.

To those looking for another venue to get their very own supercomputer, you’re in luck! Nvidia has recently announced that their CUDA-based Tesla C1060 GPU is available in Dell’s Precision R5400, T5500 and T7500 workstations effective immediately.
If you’re worried that just one of these GPUs isn’t enough to handle your hardcore needs, worry not – just one C1060 has enough power to control the main system of the European Extremely Large Telescope project (reportedly the world’s largest). According to Jeff Meisel with National Instruments, a workstation “equipped with a single Tesla C1060 can achieve near real-time control of the mirror simulation and controller, which before wouldn't be possible in a single machine without the computational density offered by GPUs."
Hoping to upend Apple’s Mac Pro cart, Dell said its new Precision 7500 dual Nehalem Xeon workstations will pack up to six times the amount of RAM and at higher speeds than are available with today’s hottest Apple machines.
Users can get to the 192GB mark by stuffing 12 16GB DIMMs into the Precision T7500’s chassis. Dell said the RAM speeds are also increased thanks to support for DDR3/1333. The Precision will use registered ECC RAM for high density configurations. The new chips will also mark the end of FB-DIMM in the dual processor Xeon lineup.
FB-DIMM’s, which use a small and wickedly hot memory controller on each DIMM to buffer the signals, have long been dinged for massive thermal issues and latency penalties. Dell officials said people’s feelings on FB-DIMM aside, it did get the previous generation of CPUs to the RAM densities people needed. One of the primary justifications for FB-DIMM was the density issue on DDR2 but Dell officials said the 192GB mark for DDR3 was not a major technical hurdle in itself. Keeping it cool and keeping acoustics acceptable was a problem, but Dell said it has it under control.
Bandwidth and compute performance of the dual Nehalems leave the previous design in the dust, Dell said. Like the Core i7, the top-end Nehalem Xeons will feature 8MB of L3 cache, 6.4GT/s QPIs, and support Turbo Mode and Hyper-Threading. The Xeon’s will also support something called Direct Cache Access which lets single-threaded applications subsume all of the available shared L3 cache when it’s not being used by other threads.
You have to admire when a company doesn't just talk the talk, but walks the walk. EVGA, one of three Nvidia add-in board (AIB) partners to offer lifetime warranties for its videocards, not only allows end-users to overclock their cards without voiding the warranty, but arguably encourages the behavior by serving up OCing tools. Registered owners can download the company's GPU Voltage Tuner utility, and anyone can download EVGA's Precision overclocking software whether they own an EVGA-brand videocard or not.
In the case of the latter, a new version is now available, v1.5.1. Several updates have been added to the 1.5.x refresh (the majority were included in v1.5.0 released last Friday), including multi-GPU support. The overclocking tool now gives users independent access to thermal monitoring, overclocking, and fan control settings of all installed GPUs whether configured to run in SLI or not.
Other changes and fixes include better support for GeForce 9 and older videocards, a pair of new skins, settings no longer reset at Windows startup on multi-GPU systems, fixed memory clock monitoring for G98 GPUs, and Precision now displays the graphics processor codename in the system info.
