It's fairly easy to find capable Ultrabooks priced below Intel's recommended $1,000 ceiling, something that was a bit of a challenge when the form factor first emerged. Pricing has trended downwards for the past several months, but don't be surprised if some next generation Ultrabook models reverse that trend due to higher quality displays with touchscreen functionality and 3D support.
From desktops and all-in-one systems to notebooks and Ultraportable/ultrathin laptops, Intel's Ivy Bridge platform is leaving its mark everywhere you look. Is it time to say 'So long!' to Sandy Bridge? Not quite. Intel isn't gung-ho to send its Sandy Bridge platform to the CPU stockyard, and instead is planning to launch at least two new mobile chips based on last generation's architecture.
With devices like Amazon's Kindle Fire and the upcoming Surface by Microsoft freeing would-be tablet buyers not interested in the iPad from the tyranny of Apple's ecosystem, there's something in the tablet space for everyone, regardless of platform affinity (webOS notwithstanding). What that's going to do over the course of the next several years is propel demand for tablet PCs past that of traditional notebooks, though don't mistake that to mean laptops are dead.
Dell today added a pair of new notebook models to its flagship XPS brand, one of which is a 14-inch Ultrabook (XPS 14) and the other a 15-inch laptop (XPS 15). As one would expect, both models are equipped with 3rd Generation Intel Core processor options (Ivy Bridge), and both bring new digs to the mobile party with edge-to-edge Corning Gorilla Glass and a machined aluminum finish precision cut from a single block of aluminum.
Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga, choo-choo! That's the Ultrabook train coming around the bend with yet another shipment of thin and light laptops, and this time it's carrying a load of Acer Timeline Ultra M5 models throughout the U.S. Acer's new Timeline Ultra line boasts models that are slimmer and lighter than previous generation Timeline laptops, measuring a mere 0.81 inches thick and barely budging the scale at 4.3 pounds.
Boutique system builder iBuyPower is launching its own line of signature series gaming laptops called Valkyrie. The first in the new series is the Valkyrie CZ-17, a 17-inch notebook with a Full HD 1080p display driven by 3rd Generation Intel Core processor (Ivy Bridge) options and Nvidia GeForce GTX 600 series (GTX 670 or GTX 675) discrete graphics, along with up to 32GB of DDR3 memory (8GB comes standard).
Back at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year, Vizio announced its intentions of branching out into home computers, an interesting move for a company that ships more LCD HDTVs in the U.S. than anyone else. Well, Vizio made good on its promise today by officially announcing a line of all-in-one desktop models, a notebook, and a pair of thin-and-light laptops, all of which start at $898. Price is only part of the story here.
Acer is 
Dell on Tuesday announced the launch of the first Ivy Bridge-powered Vostro business notebooks: the 13-inch Vostro 3360, 14-inch Vostro 3460, and 15-inch Vostro 3560. While the Vostro 3560 is available now on Dell.com, its smaller siblings will be available starting June 21.
You might have forgotten all about Lenovo's IdeaPad Y580 line of laptops, which the OEM first introduced to the world way back at CES in January of this year. Well, here we are six months later and you can finally order one. Lenovo's Y580 notebooks pack a one-two punch that consists of an Intel 3rd Generation Core i7 3610QM processor (Ivy Bridge) and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 660M graphics (Kepler) with 2GB of video memory.
