Acer on Tuesday unveiled what it's calling a 2-in-1 Aspire Swtich 10. The 2-in-1 designation is based on the Aspire Switch 10's ability to function as a laptop or a tablet, though that's a bit of an undersell here. Acer could have marketed the device as a 4-in-1 if choosing to focus on its four modes or orientation, which include the traditional laptop setup, tablet mode, display mode, and tent mode.
Dell is taking aim at design professionals on-the-go and students
Workstations aren't typically inexpensive, nor are they often portable (there are exceptions). Dell set out to tackle both barriers by introducing the Precision M2800 Mobile Workstation last month, though at the time the OEM wasn't able to share pricing information or an exact release date. Now we have both -- the Dell Precision M2800 Mobile Workstation is available to purchase today starting at $1,199 on the nose.
Eurocom's latest laptop is an ultraportable that starts at $825
Most of the time when we receive word of a new system offering from Eurocom, it's a desktop replacement-class laptop with all the bells and whistles, and price tag to match. This time around, Eurocom dropped us a line to let us know about its new Electra 2, a thin and light ultraportable that starts out at $825. The world's first laptop with Technicolor Color Certification
Toshiba was quick to embrace Intel's Ultrabook form factor during its infancy, and now that 4K displays are gaining traction, here comes Toshiba once again. The Toshiba Satellite P55t is a 15.6-inch laptop with a 4K Ultra HD In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, which offers up four times more pixels than a Full HD 1080p display. It's also supposedly the first notebook in the world to earn Technicolor Color Certification.
Sony isn't taking any chances with potentially defective battery packs found in Vaio Fit 11A laptops
Sony is warning owners of Vaio Fit 11A laptops that the non-removable battery packs provided by a third party supplier could potentially present a burn hazard. In certain model Vaio Fit 11A notebooks released in February 2014, the built-in battery could malfunction and overheat, resulting in partial burns to the chassis and the PC. Since it's a non-removable battery, your only option is to stop using the PC and disconnect it from the AC adapter.

Laptop shoppers in North America are willing to sacrifice features, performance, and overall functionality in exchange for lower priced systems, or so it seems based on data provided by market intelligence firm ABI Research. According to ABI Research, of the estimated 2.1 million Chromebooks shipped in 2013, nearly 89 percent reached North America. Looking ahead, the intelligence firm predicts Chromebook shipments will grow to 11 million units in 2019.

Don't be surprised if there's a surge in Chromebook sales
Windows XP is a dead OS walking and it's highly unlikely to get a last second reprieve. Instead, Microsoft is anxious to bury the legacy OS in the backyard in hopes that those still clinging to XP will opt for a newer, more secure version of Windows. Some inevitably will, but one thing that will be interesting to keep an eye on is how many users replace their aging XP machines with a Chromebook.
