Android will attack the low cost notebook market.

Intel CEO Paul Otellini recently said that touchscreen PCs could start selling for as little as $200 sometime in the next few months, though it's tough to imagine a Windows 8-based machine carrying such a low price tag. That's because they probably won't. Instead of Windows 8, most of these affordable PCs will be laptop machines built around Google's open source Android platform.

The most enviable part is the price

This we know: Windows 8 is more usable with a touchscreen, plain and simple. Whether that’s a practical scenario for tower-and-monitor setups is arguable, but it turns out that using touch on a laptop comes pretty naturally—even more so than we expected.

Toshiba's Kirabook will test the limit of how much Ultrabook shoppers are willing to spend.

Intel and its hardware partners have made a concerted effort to bring Ultrabook pricing down, but just because we're seeing lower sticker prices across the board, does that mean the market for premium Ultrabooks is dead? Toshiba's committed to finding out, as evidenced by its new 13-inch Kirabook with PixelPure display. The Kirabook boasts a Retina-like resolution of 2560x1440, though the cost of ownership begins at $1,600.

After an initial delay pushed the release of the Asus Taichi 31 Ultrabook back several months in the U.S., we were beginning to wonder if the 13.3-inch SKU would ever see the light of the day. We can all stop twiddling our thumbs as Asus said it has finally begun shipping the dual-display Ultrabook stateside. That's great news if you've been jonesing for a Windows 8 Ultrabook with two 13.3-inch panels.

The once popular netbook is now on the verge of extinction.

Say goodbye to the netbook as you know it. In a couple of years, netbooks will virtually disappear from the market place, becoming the first true casualty of the tablet era. Even today there really isn't much of a market for netbooks, a category that was at the height of its popularity just three short years ago. Is there a market for high priced Ultrabooks?

Sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind and hope everything works out, which is exactly what Samsung's doing with its new Series 9 Premium Ultrabook. It's a $1,400 Ultrabook that flies in the face of conventional wisdom suggesting Ultrabooks need to come down in price, not go up. In fact, Samsung's newest model is tagged with a price that's more than twice as high as some of its competitors' models. Is it worth the markup?

Yes, we used "Vizio" and "premium" in the same sentence.

Who would have thought that Vizio would make a splash in the PC market, and do so at a time when tablets and smartphones are all the rage? Vizio made its move into PC territory last June by introducing a line of all-in-one systems and Ultrabooks with unibody designs similar in style to Apple's MacBook Air (but at a fraction of the cost), and now it's refreshing its lineup with upgraded features, including touchscreen panels for Windows 8.

The Incredible Hulk of laptops

Think a laptop is supposed to be a light and portable PC? Think again. iBuyPower’s CZ-17 is neither of those things. With a carry weight of almost 11 pounds and dimensions measuring 16.9x11.3x2.2-inches, this thing is huge and friggin’ heavy. Imagine lugging around a dumbbell in your pack all day and you’ll catch our drift.
