Road warriors are forced to admit that while wireless broadband has improved at hotels over the years, it’s still far from perfect. When both are offered the speeds are almost always better if you are able to jack in, but with modern tablets that’s not always possible. This creates a captive audience of tech savvy business travelers, and ASUS appears to be eager to cash in.

Lenovo's first Chromebook is headed for schools.

That was fast! A rumor surfaced earlier this week suggesting Lenovo was planning to launch a Chromebook, jumping into territory that's so far been occupied only by Acer and Samsung. The rumor was true, at least as it pertains to Lenovo introducing a Chromebook model of its own, which it did today in the form of a rugged ThinkPad X131e.

Asus may jump on the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon.

Don't accuse Asus of playing favorites. As you know, Asus builds Google's Nexus 7 tablet and also recently announced a low-cost Android slate of its own (the $149 MeMO Pad), but none of that means it's interested in only dealing with Android devices in the mobile space. On the contrary, the Taiwanese PC maker is reportedly trying to hammer out a licensing deal with Microsoft to start selling Windows Phone 8 devices.

Lenovo's sudden interest in Chromebooks is based on demand.

Microsoft is trying hard to sell the masses on Windows 8, and there are no shortage of new systems built around the touch-friendly operating system. However, Windows 8 isn't the only game in town. In fact, Lenovo is reportedly building a line of Chromebooks and Chromeboxes, venturing into territory that so far has been the shared domain of Acer and Samsung.

The IdeaPad Yoga 11S won't be the only new hybrid laptop from Lenovo.

Lenovo recently showed the hybrid notebook category a little love with the introduction of its ThinkPad Helix Ultrabook for enterprise clients and IdeaPad Yoga 11S Ultrabook for consumers. Both products tow the Microsoft line with Windows 8 serving as the centerpiece, but might we see a convertible laptop from Lenovo running Android instead? There's a good possibility, based on the latest chatter around the web.

Perhaps because the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last week was so heavily focused on Windows 8 devices and technologies, Asus chose to wait for the dust to settle before introducing its Android-powered MeMO Pad tablet. Or maybe Asus didn't want anything else to overshadow the fact that it's launching a 7-inch Jelly Bean tablet for just $149. Could this be the beginning of a new generation of low-cost Android slates?

Samsung Loses Interest in Windows RT Tablets, What About You?

After studying the market, Samsung decided now is not the time to launch a Windows RT tablet.

We don't know what the future holds for Windows RT tablets, but if we had to guess, well, it's probably not good. Overpriced and hamstrung by an operating system that can't run legacy applications, Windows RT tablets are of limited appeal, and at least one major vendor wants no part of it. For now, anyway, Samsung won't be launching a Windows RT tablet in the U.S. market.
