Is there a more appropriate name for a line of tablet PCs than Yoga? While you ponder that one, take note that Lenovo just expanded its Yoga Tablet 2 family with the new Yoga 13-inch Tablet 2 with Windows. Joining its 8-inch and 10-inch Windows-based brethren, Lenovo's latest slate is not only the largest, but also the most flexible in that it boasts a new mode -- Hang.
Having climbed its way to being king of the mountain in the PC sector, Lenovo is now setting its sights on mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and yes, even wearables. Speaking of the latter, Lenovo now has a product page for its forthcoming Smartband SW-B100. Lenovo's targeting "young people who take care of their personal health and are interested in new tech trend products" with this one.
Why's Ashton Kutcher hanging around Lenovo, you ask? The short answer, quite simply, is marketing. But the longer answer is that he joined Lenovo as a product engineer a year ago and purportedly helped develop the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, one of three new products Lenovo just rolled out. The other two are the non-pro version of the Yoga Tablet and the Yoga 3 Pro, an ultraslim convertible.
The numbers are in and according to International Data Corporation (IDC), Lenovo is still the top supplier of PCs in the world with a 20 percent share of the market in the third quarter of 2014, up from 17.17 percent in the same period a year ago. Meanwhile, Apple managed to claw its way into the top five chart by overtaking Asus for fifth place with a 6.3 percent share of the market, up from 5.7 percent a year ago.

It will be tough (not impossible) to catch up with and/or surpass Apple or Samsung in the tablet race, though the sprint for third place is a ferocious one led by Lenovo, Amazon, and Asus, as well as other "emerging vendors," according to ABI Research. Lenovo is especially well positioned to take the No. 3 spot in tablet market share and is expected to ship 21 million slates by 2019.
New systems for the board room, game room, and beyond
Lenovo already blitzed the IFA 2014 convention in Berlin with a number of product announcements yesterday, but as it turns out, the company was just warming up. Picking up where it left off, Lenovo today announced a new portfolio of devices that include the ThinkPad Helix, Horizon 2s, Horizon 2e, ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One (TIO), and Edge 15 with starting prices ranging from $279 on up to $999.
Don't accuse Lenovo of putting all of its eggs in a single basket. That wasn't the company's strategy up to this point, nor is it the road to success going forward -- instead, Lenovo is kicking off the 2014 IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited show in Berlin by showcasing three new tablet and gaming systems. They include the Tab S8, Y70 Touch laptop, and Erazer X315 desktop
After five straight quarters of being on top, Lenovo shows no signs of relinquishing its position as the world's largest supplier of PCs (in terms of sales and volume). The number one PC maker is also determined to outpace the industry average in desktop PC growth, hence Lenovo just announced three new additions to its ThinkCentre desktop PC line designed for business users as companies look to leave Windows XP in the dust.
Lenovo’s server division set for sevenfold increase in global market share
Lenovo’s $2.3 billion acquisition of IBM’s x86-based server business has been given the green light by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), IBM announced in a press release Friday. All eyes had been on CFIUS, a U.S. government inter-agency body responsible for assessing security implications of such foreign investments, after the deal received the necessary regulatory approval in China last month.
Lenovo's strategy for the surviving the so-called "post-PC" era is to keep selling PCs
The number one supplier of PCs in the world continues to outperform the sector as a whole, while simultaneously taking advantage of the mobile market. Suffice to say, Lenovo has things figured out, though if you need hard numbers to drive the point home, you need only look at the company's results for its first fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2014. Continuing where it left off last quarter, Lenovo posted quarterly revenue of $10.4 billion, up 18 percent year-over-year, along with a 23 percent year-over-over bump in earnings to $214 million.
