Despite predictions of doom and gloom, consumers seem to be optimistic about the prospects for Google’s ChromeOS in its current form. The ChromeBooks from Acer and Samsung are selling briskly on Amazon, Cnet reports. The cheapest model, the $349 Wi-Fi only Acer is currently number 4 in the laptop category. 
Little brothers are like your own portable punching bag: name calling, insulting and rubbing your smaller sibling's face in the dirt are all typical big brother pastimes. As any bigger brother can tell you, though, it sucks when your little brother gets big enough to fight back and punch you in the eye. The days of us big brother PC-types mocking younger technologies like smartphones and tablets may be coming to an end if a recent report is any indication: more people access Wi-Fi Internet using mobile devices than traditional computers.
It’s June 15th, and that can only mean one thing: Chromebooks. Yes, today is the day that you can officially buy a new Chromebook, assuming you didn’t jump on the Gilt.com deal a few weeks ago. The cloud-based Chrome OS machines from Samsung and Acer are available from Amazon and Best Buy online.
For the few that need a computer that can survive a 10 foot fall or keep ticking in a sandstorm, Panasonic has refreshed their line of Toughbook convertible tablet laptops with the Toughbook 19. Not much has changed on the outside of this version, but the internals got a big bump up.
Laptops are catching up to traditional computers in a lot of ways, but they're still lagging a bit behind in terms of disk space. Terabyte hard drives aren't quite a dime a dozen on desktops, but you can still find a decent one for under $100, and we've seen several PCs sporting a TB drive with their basic configurations. Laptops haven't been so lucky, though – manufacturers simply aren't offering 1TB options. Samsung's coming to the rescue of storage-deprived portable PC owners with the announcement of a new 1TB internal hard drive designed for use with laptops.
Toshiba has finally updated their high-end gaming laptop line with the new X770 model. This is a hefty desktop replacement unit, but it has slimmed down compared to the last generation. Still, it doesn't compromise on the specs. The X770 can blow a lot of desktops out of the water.
It looks like HP has given the Sandy Bridge treatment to their 14-inch Pavilion dm4 (now the dm4x) line of laptops. The lame old first-generation Core i5 CPU has been replaced with a spiffy new Core i5 2410M as the default option. For just $730, the base model seems very well-specced.
Sure, the M15x might have gone AWOL, but Dell has been kind enough to finally ship the beastly M18x to interested parties. This is not your run of the mill laptop. This is a full scale desktop replacement that weighs in at 16 pounds. The upside of all that mass is the amazing hardware packed into the unit.
Sandy Bridge has been back in the news this week in a very big way, with just about every manufacturer launching all new dual core laptops with Core i3, i5, and i7 branded processors. You might make the argument that Sandy Bridge laptops have been around for ages now, but as 
Apple's Macbook Air has been widely praised for its smart, attractive industrial design. Samsung, not to be outdone, showed off their own super lightweight laptop at CES a few months ago. The Series 9 is a great looking laptop with reasonable specs, and it is on sale now.
