As is customary, Apple’s newest mobile device has been torn asunder by curious gawkers in search of a cheap thrill. Also, they want to see what’s inside so they can price out components, but that is pretty thrilling. The iPhone 4S bill of materials was determined by iSupplyi to be roughly $188 for the 16GB version.
One of the big new features in Apple's iPhone 4S is Siri, a "virtual personal assistant" that somewhat understands normal everyday language and will assist with setting reminders, firing off text messages, and other tasks. Android also supports voice recognition, just not to the extent of what Siri's capable of. Don't hold your breath waiting for an Android equivalent.
Apple’s Siri voice control system is undeniably cool, but it’s also still technically a beta product. As such, there are some kinks to work out, but this is a pretty big one. The default setting for Siri is that it can be activated when the phone is locked, which is handy. But it turns out that even if you use a passcode, anyone can fire up Siri without knowing your code, and send texts and emails, or snoop in your calendar.
We get it folks, you don't come here to read Apple content, though the occasional newsworthy blip warrants a bit of coverage every now and then. That includes the iPhone 4S, Apple's latest and greatest smartphone that set a 3-day sales record of more than 4 million devices during its launch weekend. You already know that. But do you know if it will blend? And is the new hardware capable of standing up to 50 caliber armor piercing incendiary rounds? The answers are easy, and the videos demonstrating each one are awesome.
Admit it, you rushed out over the weekend and purchased an iPhone 4S, or you had one delivered to your door that you already pre-ordered, right? Even if you didn't pick up Apple's latest and greatest, plenty others did, with weekend sales (including launch day on Friday) topping four million units, the Cupertino outfit confirmed. One can only imagine what the numbers would have looked like had Apple launched an iPhone 5 like so many people were hoping for.
We love it when the folks over at iFixIt tear into brand new hardware with Dexter-like precision and exposes the guts. The latest piece of hardware to hit iFixIt's operating table is Apple's recently announced iPhone 4S smartphone that started shipping today. Given that the iPhone 4S is really just an upgraded iPhone 4 in the same mold, will there be any surprises waiting inside?
In an interview with The Seattle Times, Andy Lee, president of Microsoft's Windows Phone division, took a few potshots at the competition while talking up his company's Mango platform. Mango, or Windows Phone 7.5, was introduced to some existing Windows Phone users last month and introduces 500 new features. But is it better than the competition?
Sprint joins AT&T and Verizon as one of three wireless carriers signed up to carry Apple's iPhone 4S smartphone, and in fact has inked a deal to purchase 30.5 million iPhone devices worth $20 billion over the next four years. But unlike its two competitors, the spunky newcomer to the iPhone space will continue to offer an unlimited data plan with no overage fees or throttling.

Apple's much hyped iPhone press event has brought the Web's worst out of the woodwork (we're talking about hackers, not Apple fanyboys, in case that's not clear) who are trying to get gullible users to click on malicious links. The email appears to come from Apple and seemingly provides details about "the new Apple iPhone 5GS," and that alone is a dead giveaway that something's fishy. Apple
