There are lots of reasons why battery life in smartphones might fall well short of expectations. You could have too many services turned on all the time, each one sipping juice from the lithium-ion battery. There could be a rogue app that's flawed or poorly coded and constantly doing things in the background. It could be a software snafu, and it could be a hardware problem. Or, as one Apple Genius put it, the phone could be stressed out, man.
Normally we pass on Mac or iPhone specific news, but just in case it ever comes up in a debate, 9 to 5 Mac has proven that without a doubt, Apple is indeed shafting iPhone 4 customers. It seems an enterprising young hacker by the name of Steven Smith has not only ported the Siri AI interface to the iPhone 4, but the 
Sprint didn't just sell its soul when it inked a long-term agreement with Apple to carry the iPhone, it sold out its investors who were kept in the dark as to how much Sprint was spending on the deal. Until now. Sprint ultimately got what it wanted and felt it needed in order to compete with Verizon and AT&T, and as a result, the third largest wireless operator in the U.S. said it might need $7 billion in financing over the next few years in order to upgrade its network to handle all those iPhone activations, Reuters reports.
Gazelle is a service that buys old gadgets, and pays out cash and gift cards, but there’s one type of trade-in that’s been conspicuously up in recent days. According to the company, there has been an 80% jump in people selling their BlackBerry smartphones since last week. This smashes the already high record number of sales early in the month.

Apple’s Siri voice control system is undeniably cool, but it’s also still technically a beta product. As such, there are some kinks to work out, but this is a pretty big one. The default setting for Siri is that it can be activated when the phone is locked, which is handy. But it turns out that even if you use a passcode, anyone can fire up Siri without knowing your code, and send texts and emails, or snoop in your calendar.
We get it folks, you don't come here to read Apple content, though the occasional newsworthy blip warrants a bit of coverage every now and then. That includes the iPhone 4S, Apple's latest and greatest smartphone that set a 3-day sales record of more than 4 million devices during its launch weekend. You already know that. But do you know if it will blend? And is the new hardware capable of standing up to 50 caliber armor piercing incendiary rounds? The answers are easy, and the videos demonstrating each one are awesome.
Admit it, you rushed out over the weekend and purchased an iPhone 4S, or you had one delivered to your door that you already pre-ordered, right? Even if you didn't pick up Apple's latest and greatest, plenty others did, with weekend sales (including launch day on Friday) topping four million units, the Cupertino outfit confirmed. One can only imagine what the numbers would have looked like had Apple launched an iPhone 5 like so many people were hoping for.
We love it when the folks over at iFixIt tear into brand new hardware with Dexter-like precision and exposes the guts. The latest piece of hardware to hit iFixIt's operating table is Apple's recently announced iPhone 4S smartphone that started shipping today. Given that the iPhone 4S is really just an upgraded iPhone 4 in the same mold, will there be any surprises waiting inside?
