Gamers who could potentially benefit the most from AMD's new Catalyst 11.11a performance driver may never read this. Why? Well, if you've been sucked into Skyrim, then you've undoubtedly found plenty to occupy your time, such as picking pockets, slaying dragons, and leveling up, all of which takes priority over reading the news, going to work, and hygiene (it's okay to make an exception with that last one).

AMD's Catalyst software suite version 11.11 is all polished up and ready for installation. The big new feature in the latest Catalyst suite is Adobe Flash Player 11 support, which enables full support of the GPU accelerated Stage 3D API and Stage 3D applications. AMD Radeon HD Series GPUs, A-Series APU, and E-Series APUs are all supported by this, AMD says.
Nvidia's Tegra ARM CPUs are hitching a ride to Spain where the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is a developing a new hybrid supercomputer that, for the first time, will combine quad-core Tegra CPUs with high performance Nvidia CUDA GPUs, Nvidia announced. It will be the first large scale system based on this technology, and BSC expects to demonstrate two to five times improvement in energy efficiency compared with today's most efficient systems.

Analysts at Jon Peddie Research (JPR) said that Q3 graphics shipments jumped 16.7 percent over last quarter, and 18.4 percent over last year. That's the sort of thing that happens when you start integrating graphics onto CPU dies, as both Intel (Sandy Bridge) and AMD (Fusion) have done, which helped "shipments during the third quarter of 2011 [to] (finally) behave according to past years with regards to seasonality."
The only thing missing from Sapphire's new Radeon HD 6970 2GB graphics card is a pack of DoubleMint gum. Otherwise, this card is all about doubling up what it has to offer (outside of the GPU), including a "super efficient" dual-fan cooler with two 90mm fans, and a dual-BIOS design that lets users choose between fast and quiet or really fast and not so quiet to allow for overclocking.
AMD has ported another consumer desktop GPU over to its professional FirePro line with the launch of its new Turks-based FirePro V4900. Tooting its own horn, AMD claims the new card "blows away the competition" with more than double the performance of competitive cards in many Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Digital Content Creation (DCC) applications.
