To celebrate the release of Steam for Linux, over 50 titles are now 50-75 percent off.
After lots of talk and months of beta testing, a Steam client for Linux is now available, Valve announced today. Could this be the beginning of a new era in gaming? It's far too early to know for sure, though Valve's Gabe Newell has let it be known in no uncertain terms that he's not happy with the direction Microsoft has taken its Windows platform, which ultimately led to Valve fast-tracking its Steam client for Linux.
We loved the original Borderlands for all of its first-person-shooter action, varied gameplay (there was shooting people and driving over them, for example), and lots and lots of guns. In fact, the official claim from developer Gearbox Software was that the game offered 16,164,886 guns, which is almost as big as Gordon Mah Ung’s personal collection. Despite its glorious carnage, it also had a few glaring problems, foremost of which was a horrendous PC port that was so bad Gearbox publicly apologized (via a love letter written by the game’s annoying NPC Claptrap) and promised to make it right with Borderlands 2.

Nearly five years after it launched to Xbox 360, Halo 3 might finally be headed to the PC.
A small pile of evidence leads us to believe that Microsoft is working on porting Halo 3 to the PC, though nothing has been announced or is even remotely official. That's the word news and rumor site Fudzilla has been hearing from "a number of sources," all of which say Microsoft is planning to release the five-year-old title using both their Games for Windows platform and via Steam. Could it be true?
Valve's Newell believes Apple could roll over the console guys, if it really wanted to.
In this week's edition of "Gabe Newell Said What?," the co-founder and managing director of Valve waxed insightful on the hurdles set before the much anticipated Steam Box, the biggest of which might be trying to overcome Apple's presence in the living room. As you're likely aware, Newell once famously called the release of Windows 8 a "catastrophe for everyone in the PC space," and that it would cause top-tier OEMs to exit the market. That's part of the reason why Valve is forging ahead with a so-called Steam Box in the first place, but it's not Microsoft (or Sony) that poses the biggest threat.

Gaming peripheral maker Logitech will cease manufacturing console products by the end of 2013.
Logitech has seen better quarters than its most recent one, in which sales were $615 million, down 14 percent from $715 million one year prior. The company posted an operating loss of $180 million, in part based on a non-cash goodwill impairment charge estimated to be $211 million, but also because it's just not selling as many peripherals. In an attempt to turn things around, Logitech said it's discontinuing "non-strategic products," including speaker docks and console gaming peripherals.
