Timothy Kyle Dunaway, a Texas-based software pirate, who had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of criminal copyright violation, has been handed a 41-month jail term by a US District Judge. His clandestine network included 40 websites hosted on servers based in Austria and Malaysia.

He is said to have sold pirated business software through these websites. His activities are estimated to have cost $1 million to software authors.

Not only has he been ordered to pay $810,257 in damages, but the court has also sequestered two of his most cherished belongings, a Ferrari 348 TB and a Rolex watch. After being unnoticed for four prolific years, his business eventually came on the government’s radar screen in May 2008.

Can't afford an Ferrari that goes vroom vroom? Maybe you can get the same experience from one that goes ______(insert Vista's startup sound here). Acer says it's new Ferrari 1200 notebook "conveys the look and feel of a F1 racecar" with a "unique ventilation design that echoes the exhaust pipes of F1 cars." Plenty more comparisons are made in the press release, which you can read here.

Underneath the hood (or inside the chassis - it doesn't ship with a real hood) Acer opted to go with an AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-core processor with 2MB cache and an AMD M780G chipset. Graphics are fueled with ATI's Radeon HD 3200, and the portable rig supports up to 4GB of DDR2 memory. A SATA hard drive, Acer's Bio-Protection fingerprint reader, and a 12.1-inch LCD display with LED backlighting round out the notable features.

Aesthetically,  the Ferrari 1200 comes with a carbon-fiber cover with a wave pattern, "while the soft-touch coating and the velvety texture of the interior ensure ergonomic comfort." Even the touchpad comes decked out, constructed of anodized-metal to resemble the brake and acceleration pedals of the real deal.

Vroom. Vroom vroom. The unholy sound of this case will haunt you in your nightmares.

We don’t just want to give a 1 verdict to the person responsible for the power-on mechanism in this Ferrari-themed case. We want to strap him to a jet engine. Harsh words, but you too will be driven to undertake such bold action once you hear the ear-splitting rev of a car engine after you hit the F430’s power button. You can disable this “feature” by pulling the plug on the front panel, but hearing this noise even once is too much.

Fortunately, that's by far the worst thing about it. Hit the jump to discover a few things we did like.
