NZXT's Grid is an affordable 10-port fan hub with a twist.
The world's population of fan controllers grew by two this week, courtesy of BitFenix, including one model the company claims is the world's first Internet-connected fan controller (Recon) and another that sports low profile sliders (Hydra Pro) for compatibility with just about any case, even ones with doors. The Hydra Pro features 30W per channel performance (with five channels), offers push-button LED on/off functionality when combined with BitFenix's Spectre and Spectre Pro LED fans, and boasts BitFenix's SofTouch surface treatment similar to what you find on many rubberized smartphones.
With all the attention focused on the pixel-pumping prowess of the brand-spankin' new video cards being released by AMD and Nvidia these days, an important part of the equation may be getting glossed over: keeping the hardware running cool. Deep down in our inbox, barely visible through the flood of GTX 670-related press releases, we noticed a nugget of information that may be able to help hardcore system builders with their heating problems. Today, Fractal Design announced a new six-fan controller, the Adjust 108.
It's generally a good idea to let your power supply decide when it needs a burst of air to keeps its internals nice and chilly, but if you'd rather take matters into your own hands, Cooler Master's Silent Pro Hybrid Series is a new line of fully modular power supplies that come bundled with a fan controller. With it you can turn off your PSU's fan and control up to three system fans. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, except Cooler Master put a safe guard in place.
You know parents are the same, no matter time nor place; they don't understand that us enthusiasts need to micromanage airflow in our case. Yeah, we'll leave the lyrical stylngs of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince in the 1980s and focus our attention on what we know best: PCs. Still, the point remains, if you want to micromanage your case's half-dozen fans, NZXT's new Sentry Mix fan controller will allow you to do just that.
Case designer NZXT also dabbles in related peripherals, like power supplies, cables, case fans, and fan controllers. The company's latest product -- Sentry Mesh -- is another fan controller, but unlike previous ones in NZXT's lineup, this one is intended to blend in with the growing number of cases sporting a mesh facade.
