Back in August, Advanced Micro Devices launched a couple of new E-series accelerated processing units (APUs), namely the E-450 and E-300. The launch of the two dual-core chips effectively doubled the number of E-series APUs on the market. Lenovo has started shipping its IdeaPad S205, an 11.6-inch ultraportable built around AMD's Fusion platform. The heart and soul of this system consists of AMD's E-350 APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), which combines a dual-core 1.6GHz CPU and Radeon HD 6310 graphics. The S205 is the first of Lenovo's S Series announced back at CES and starts out at $499.
Gateway sent us word early this morning that the OEM is releasing a new notebook line designed around AMD's Fusion platform. It's the NV Series, which culminates in the Gateway NV51B05u, a 15.6-inch laptop sporting an AMD E-350 APU with Vision Technology and ATI Radeon HD 6310 graphics. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the price.
Those holding their breath for Lenovo’s AMD Fusion-toting ThinkPad x120e ultraportable will have to keep doing so until March 8. The notebook was originally scheduled to begin shipping today, but Lenovo has pushed back the launch to next month for reasons unknown to us. However, we do know a lot of other things about this machine, including its innards and price. All that after the jump.
