Look for Lenovo to release new ThinkPad ultraportable laptops refreshed with Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture. That includes the ThinkPad X220 laptop and X220 convertible tablet PC. In addition to Sandy Bridge, the ThinkPad X220 boasts an optional 12.5-inch IPS display (1366x768), up to 8GB of DDR3-1333 memory, and SSD options.
Bad news if you're hoping this whole 3D fad will hurry up and run its course, it looks like 3D is here to stay. Not only is 3D at the box office showing no signs of slowing down, research shows that revenue generated by 3D flicks nearly doubled in 2010 in North America, which was helped in part by movie theaters upgrading their screens to accommodate 3D motion pictures. A strong fourth quarter helped Vizio maintain its lead in the U.S. LCD TV market, which now claims a 27.6 percent market share, according to data released by iSuppli. Vizio shipped 2.9 million LCD TVs in the fourth quarter, up 78.9 percent from 1.6 million in the third quarter, and has been sitting on top for all of 2010. Coming in second place is Samsung, which claims a 20.2 percent share of the market.
AOC recently launched the Aire Black LED, a family of three new displays that fall under the company's existing AireLED Series. Nintendo's 3DS handheld console is a hit, at least in Japan where customers waited in line to purchase the next-generation game player, Bloomberg reports. There were around 2,000 anxious gamers waiting outside Yodobashi Camera Co.'s store in Akihabara, Tokyo, all wanting to get their mitts on the console that had sold-out on preorder and at other electronics stores. Fans had begun lining up 10PM the night before it went on sale.
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) said it was another record year at the box office, with movie receipts reaching an all-time high of $31.8 billion, up 8 percent from 2009. This is the fourth time in five years that box office revenue has grown, setting records in three of them, according to John Fithian, President and CEO of the National Association of Theater Owners. Playing a big role in this continued growth is the emergence of 3D.
