Without question, Ultrabooks are the sexiest, trendiest laptops on the market right now, and with good reason. They're thin and light like a MacBook Air and every bit as good looking (and in some cases, they're thinner, lighter, and better looking than their iOS competitors), fast, and highly portable with long-lasting battery life. All of these things are attractive in a notebook, but if you could afford a desktop replacement laptop, would you still shop an Ultrabook? That's a question consumers will have to answer.

There's no mistaking Origin PC's new EON17-X laptop for an Ultrabook. The EON17-X is a full-fledged desktop replacement and the latest to incorporate Intel's X79 chipset in a mobile form factor. It's a "shock and awesome" notebook, as Origin PC describes it, that comes standard with an Intel Core i7 3930K processor, or you can upgrade to a 3960X Extreme CPU for bonus bragging rights.

Maingear claims its new Titan 17 notebook will make "haters cry hax" while "you cry 'Boom, headshot!'" That's a bit of a stretch -- not that haters will hate (don't they always?), but that Maingear calls this 17-inch beast a notebook. Armed with an Intel Core i7 990X Extreme Edition processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 485M graphics configurable in SLI, the Titan 17 is more of a desktop replacement than a frequent travel companion.
