We’ve recommended Dropbox to our readers more times than we can count, but with good reason. 
The Internet has been around for decades now, and even though we all use it every day, the simple act of sending an electronic file to a friend isn’t always so simple. We’ve grown accustomed to e-mail and instant messengers, which work well for sending small handfuls of small files to small groups of people. As soon as you start trying to send anything en masse there are a lot of roadblocks. So what exactly is the best way to send a large file, or a lot of files, or—dare we say—a lot of large files?
When it comes to cloud storage, consumers have a lot of options to choose from. For many people, Dropbox is their go-to service. Others prefer SkyDrive, Amazon Cloud Drive or Sugarsync. They’re all great ways to go, with each one offering it’s own particular perks and quirks. While it might be one of the newest kids on the file storage and sharing block, Minus has enough going for it that we felt it worthy of being our Cool Site of the Week.
Dropbox and SugarSync snatch up all the headlines, but they aren’t the only cloud storage solution in town; for the past few years, Linux lovers looking to access their files on the run could turn to Ubuntu One, a service offered by Canonical, the private company that provides commercial backbone for Ubuntu Linux. There was one small problem, though; Ubuntu One only worked on Linux computers, which kind of sucks when you remember that, you know, most computers run Microsoft operating systems. All that changed last night with the launch of an Ubuntu One Windows client.
Rumors of a Google branded cloud storage solution are almost as old as the company itself, but yet, it never materialized. The search giant offers a ton of solutions to help migrate your computing needs online, but when it comes to managing files they have been pretty slow to respond. In Steven Levy’s in-depth look at the inner workings of Google titled “In The Plex”, he claims Googlers viewed files as an outdated concept, and uses that logic to explain why the Gdrive never came to be. Years of silence, combined with recent confirmation in print would normally have lead us to write of the service for good, but according to

Other phones already have the ability: Windows 7 Phones have Skydrive baked in and iPhone users have the iCloud, so where’s the Android love? Turns out, it’s at HTC, who recently entered into a partnership with Dropbox to offer 5GB of cloud storage to new Sense 3.5 phone owners for the low, low price of $0.
Back in 2006, Google began work on an internal project codenamed Platypus. The core of the program was to provide every Gmail user with a cloud-based hard drive akin to Microsoft Skydrive or Dropbox. It was later revealed as GDrive, but it never launched. The project was quietly killed in 2008. But some new code in the Chromium project makes it seem like the service might be making an unexpected comeback.
Among a host of other things, Microsoft is also a veteran of the cloud storage game. Its SkyDrive cloud storage service has been around for almost four years now, during which time over 100 million people have tried it. But Microsoft admittedly sees plenty of room for improvement. To this end, it has given an HTML5 makeover to its cloud storage service.
A little snafu over at Dropbox HQ has served to remind us how imperfect the cloud still is for storage of all our personal data. Over the weekend, an observant user noticed that following a password change, he was able to log into his cloud storage account with any password at all, even if it was just one letter long. Weird, right? Well it turns out it wasn’t just him. Anyone could log into any Dropbox with any password.
