Adobe Digital Certificate Used to Sign Malware

Adobe is no stranger to seeing vulnerabilities in its software being targeted in the wild, but it’s not every day that the company comes across malware masquerading as Adobe software using a valid code signing certificate. Adobe recently received not one, but two such malicious utilities, the company revealed Thursday.

Twitter Reportedly in "Advanced Talks" to Buy TweetDeck

A preliminary report from the Wall Street Journal claims that Twitter is in "advanced talks" to buy the popular Twitter client TweetDeck for $50 million. Neither company is talking, but The Journal apparently has multiple sources on the matter. If true, Twitter will have taken yet another step toward controlling the application ecosystem for their platform.

Adobe AIR for Android Arrives

The Adobe AIR runtime is now available in the Android Market, paving the way for AIR apps on the increasingly popular platform. Developers are now free to leverage Adobe AIR's strong cross-platform credentials to deliver applications that seamlessly traverse multiple platforms. AIR apps for Android will be available through the Android Market and run natively. However, as with Flash, only devices running the latest version of the mobile OS, Android 2.2 (Froyo), are compatible with Adobe's cross-platform runtime environment.

Adobe AIR 2.5 Coming to Android in Q4 2010

With Adobe now focusing its attention on the mobile market, both Flash and AIR appear equally vital to its mobile efforts due to their cross-platform abilities. While it is eyeing all major mobile platforms with the exception of Apple's iOS, it appears to have singled out Android as the most important of the lot. The latest version of Android is the first to feature built-in Flash support. The San Jose-based software company is now looking forward to bringing its AIR platform to Android.

Adobe first showcased AIR for Android at Google I/O in May. Around 7,000 developers have already downloaded the test version since then, according to the company. That number is likely to swell further on the back of Adobe's latest announcement that it hopes to introduce Adobe AIR 2.5 (the version that brings Android support) during the fourth quarter of 2010.

TweetDeck Gets Update, Does More than Tweet

For many, TweetDeck is the desktop app of choice when tweeting and keeping track of other’s updates. And, with the latest version about to release, the Adobe AIR program will add some support for everyone’s favorite forgotten social network, MySpace.

The new version will also come with stronger bit.ly integration, automatic and instant conversion of long links into shorter ones as you type them, the ability to drag photos directly into TweetDeck and post them to Facebook, and even the capacity to click a hashtag and then open up a new column showing what folks are saying.

TweetDeck version 0.30 is set to release today.

They’re lighter, they’re (sometimes) faster, and they take up less hard drive space than most programs — they’re Adobe Air applications. Though they appropriately live up to their name, these tiny apps do not skim on features. From shopping to managing online photos or streaming digital music, Adobe Air is making it easier to run multiple processes at one time without straining your system. Sometimes, when Photoshop is too much and Firefox has too many tabs open, we just want to open up one more application without using up all our RAM.

The Adobe Air Marketplace offers a substantial list of freeware and shareware Air applications that simplify our lives and make it just a bit easier to finish the task at hand. Though there’s a great selection of all sorts of useful and entertaining applications and desktop widgets, we’ve compiled our list of our favorite, and free, utilitarian Adobe Air applications.
