MSI today announced the arrival of its new GX Series of gaming laptops with AMD inside. These include the 15.6-inch GX60 Destroyer and 17.3-inch GX70 Destroyer, both with Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) non-reflective displays. Both models also feature the same APU and GPU -- an AMD A10-5750 processor clocked at 2.3GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) and AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics.
The expansion pack Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls is just around the corner, but in the meantime, there are plenty of quality games to occupy your free time. Of course, your gaming experience is directly tied to your GPU, and if it's been several years since you've upgraded your graphics card -- or were left weeping after testing your aging GPU against our list of The 10 Most Graphically Demanding PC Games -- now is a good time to shop something new. There are a lot of options out there, including today's top deal for an MSI Gaming N760 GeForce GTX 760 Video Card for $250 with free shipping (normally $270; additional $10 mail-in-rebate). MSI is in a tight race with ASRock to become the third largest motherboard maker behind heavyweights Asus and Gigabyte. ASRock took a slight lead in 2013, but looking ahead, MSI is expected to leapfrog into the No. 3 spot with 8 million motherboard shipments. Either way, system builders will have plenty of MSI motherboards to sift through in 2014, several of which we had a chance to glimpse at CES.
The hustle and bustle of CES can be overwhelming at times, but that didn't stop Maximum PC Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang from dashing down the strip to where MSI is holed up for the week. Once inside MSI's hotel room, Thang flipped the switch on his video camera while reps talked about a number of products, including a next-generation GE Series gaming laptop.
It's been quite a ride for ASRock, the motherboard maker that came into this world as a budget-oriented subsidiary of Asus. ASRock is now owned by Pegatron, which itself is a spin-off of Asus, and these days it competes with all comers (including Asus) in every section of the motherboard market, even the high-end. Pegatron's spunky subsidiary ended 2013 as the third largest motherboard maker in terms of shipments, though it may relinquish that spot to MSI before the new year is over.
Once the New Year hangover wears off, it will be time to kick off 2014 in style. How do you plan to ring in the New Year?
