Corsair on Thursday announced its new 64GB Flash Survivor USB drive, which the company claims is the "most rugged high-capacity flash drive on the market." And by the looks of things, they're probably right.

Encased in CNC-milled, aircraft grade aluminum, Corsair says the new drive is pretty much indestructible. Each unit comes molded in a shock-dampening collar and EPDM seal, providing water-resistance up to a depth of 200 meters. Corsair notes that reviewers have dropped, baked, boiled, microwaved, and even run over the Survivor with an SUV in an attempt to show just how durable the drive really is.

"The new 64GB Flash Survivor takes the industry's most popular rugged USB drive and takes it to the next level, with a huge amount of storage space, plus best-in-class performance," said Jim Carlton, VP of Marketing for Corsair. "The 64GB Survivor is ideal for storing and transporting your music, videos, pictures, and other important files, safe in the knowledge that your data will be safeguarded inside the Survivor's protective shell."

The drive is available now with a street price around $170. To help justify the cost, Corsair says each drive comes bundled with a USB extension cable and dog tags, and comes backed by a 10-year warranty.

Just recently Kevin Schader, the SD Association’s Director of Communications, announced that SDXC cards packing up to 64GB of storage would be arriving early next year.

The cards, which will start at 64GB and have transfer speeds of 52MB/s will pave the way for the theoretical limit of 2TB cards with 300MB/s transfer speeds, according to Schader, but he wasn’t able to say exactly when.

The 64GB specification was sent out to member companies of the SD Association in April, so there should be plenty of ways to use them once they’re out.

Corsair's popular Flash Voyager USB line reaches new heights in storage capacity today as the company announced a 64GB capacity model. According to Corsair, that's large enough to store a library of DVD-length movies and tens of thousands of high-resolution images.

The 64GB drive is available now with an MSRP of $250 (streets for much less), which buys the drive, preloaded security software and drivers, a bundled lanyward, USB extension cable, and a 10-year guarantee.

Solid state drives continue to make headway into the marketplace and Buffalo appears to be readying a herd of 32GB (SHD-EP9M32G) and 64GB (SHD-EP9M64G) SSDs for the Asus Eee PC 900 and 901 ultraportables. Not much else can be discerned from the translated press release, but according to PC Watch (and Google Translate), Buffalo will price the 32GB and 64GB at 16,800 and 33,600 yen, or $150 and $300 USD respectively.

Japan will get first crack at the new SSDs come mid to late September, but if you simply can't wait for Buffalo's drives to migrate stateside, at least one company is already selling the units with worldwide shipping.
