As long as you have access to a keyboard for long typing needs, a mouse for precise cursor placing, and an internet connection for your tablet, you are golden. Wait a minute, that IS a laptop. So a tablet with this setup is just an underpowered laptop. Didn't we already go through this with netbooks?

Yeahhh...sorta....but my tablet will run circles around those monstrosities they called netbooks. Not to mention netbooks didn't have touch capabilities. And most things I used my laptop for I can now do on my tablet just as easily. My laptop will sit for days at a time untouched.

But for the real heavy duty work I still use my desktop. There isn't a portable device made that will give me the display area, power, speed and storage space that I have on my desktop. All required attributes for most of what I do.

This is very much the trend. Even me, a so called 'techy', don't carry my laptop on travels anymore, which used to be a must-have in all my trips. My last two trips I've carried my much lighter and longer powered cheap Toshiba 10" tablet, and haven't missed my laptop a bit. If that's me, I can see how they can totally replace laptops for the more common populace.

True that, Wolfing.

Asus transformer with keyboard dock. works great on trips. smaller, lightweight but without it being a hampered netbook from a few years ago. even Linux couldn't fix the shortcomings of the Atom CPU.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't they say that about 2013 and it is yet to happen.
