We like solid state drives (SSDs) because of their blazing speeds. We like SuperSpeed USB 3.0, also because of its speed. And we like external form factors for their convenience (and speed, if you happen to be a fast runner). Super Talent wanted to find out what happens when you put the three together and what the company came up with is its new Storage POD Mini, "a portable SSD that will change how you think about external storage."
Looking past the excitable marketing speak, the Storage POD Mini is a fairly fast SSD wrapped in an external USB 3.0 enclosure for a portable storage solution that's smaller, lighter, faster, and more rugged than your average external HDD. A SandForce controller drives the SSD, helping it reach top speeds over 260MB/s.
"Where this design really shines is in the real world performance," Super Talent explains . "Its onboard processor is able to dramatically accelerate real world performance by compressing your data, in real-time, as it writes and decompresses data as it reads. Your data now uses less space and transfers more efficiently than ever. Backing up your system now takes a fraction of the time it would take on rotating media."
Other features include a blue anodized, all-aluminum enclosure that measures 110 x 68 x 10 millimeters, a one-touch backup button, and a read/write switch to protect your data from unintentional writes. The Storage POD Mini is shipping now in 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB capacities (no word on price).
