I'm sitting here wondering how many of the people who commented on the article with derogatory comments about Steve Ballmer are worth over $15,000,000,000? Or even $1,000,000?

Just sayin'.

I wonder how I knew this was exactly what was going to happen???

avatar

praack

well first we had Windows 8 and now Ballmer will ensure XBOX one goes firmly down the tubes as well

avatar

HAHAHA! And I thought the train wreck was entertaining to this point. Fun times ahead.

"You've been Xboned!"

For whatever reason, I find Steve Ballmer bears a striking resemblance to the guy that played Frankenstein in the Gene Wilder version of Young Frankenstein.

"For whatever reason, I find Steve Ballmer bears a striking resemblance to the guy that played Frankenstein in the Gene Wilder version of Young Frankenstein."

That was Peter Boyle. He also played in the hilarious 1986 movie "The Dream Team" with Michael Keaton and Christopher Lloyd and as Ray Romano's dad in the TV series "Everybody Loves Raymond".

Unfortunately, he passed away in 2006. He was a very talented actor and could do drama just as well as he did comedy.

But, I too see the resmblence. :-)

avatar

jgottberg

Yes! I wasn't trying to be mean about the Frankenstein comparison but I didn't know the actors name other than from that movie. lol. Thanks for dropping some knowledge about his true identity.

avatar

Neufeldt2002

I was thinking more along the lines of the Goonies character.

lol, Sloth!

Hey you guys!

I hate that guy's face.. nothing as pleasant as Bill Gates.

LOL!! Ha. GUESS he didn't inspire enough people!!

maxeeemum

This was probably a quit or get fired arrangement after the Xbox One debacle.

avatar

warptek2010

Crazy is as crazy does but Ballmer is bat shit crazy. Good luck.

Ballmer has decimated Microsoft's stock value, since he took over 12 years ago the stock has plummeted and lost over 50% of it's value.

How long will this man's incompetence be tolerated? He just pissed away another 8 billion for Skype, a company that has NEVER turned a profit and has no market share in business.

/facepalm

avatar

It's actually gone up about 10 points, now it did drop like 10 points about 6 months later after Gates stepped down (27 Jun 2008), is that what you are referring to?

avatar

jbitzer

MS stock is at an all time high. Please explain your analysis.

avatar

Camerone

Jbitzer, it's at an all time high if you're looking at today's price only. Start at year 2000 and WHOO! Shit reminds me of SkiFree lol.

avatar

jbitzer

Are you accounting for the 2 for 1 stock split in 2003? The highest it's been in 2000 is $58. Now let's see, if I have 2 stocks worth $35 and they used to be one stock worth $58 back then, looks like it's still at a high.

You don't work for JP Morgan, do you?

avatar

vrmlbasic

So he more than decimated the stock value if he caused it to drop by 50%...one might say that he _devastated_ it?

avatar

joeyjr

Windows 9 could be fine if Bill cleans house and gets rid of everyone at the top. LOL

Replace WINDOWS 8 with LINDOWS and I'll buy one.

Replace X-BOX one with a STEAM box and I'll buy one.

I've replaced more disc drives and had more red

lights of death to be happy with Microsoft.

I Might try running windows version 3.11 with wine so the NSA can't track me.

Thanks Edward Snowden for trying to stop the NSA and Microsoft from hacking and stealing our data. They blame and hack all the people but one's that are doing the crime.

I can hear the execs at Sony cheering all the way over here. I can see all the top notch talent fleeing MS Xbox One, and any other teams that he decides to run directly. Seriously is Bill and the MS board sleeping? This guy just keeps making giant blunders and they just keep letting him.

avatar

RtDK

Bill ... what were you thinking when you allowed this douche to be put in charge of your company? Ballmer doesn't have a friggin' clue--or if he does, he hasn't made it evident in the least.

avatar

vrmlbasic

Gates is crazy (though not in the entertaining McAfee way). I'm not surprised that he put a man who is accused of being a fellow crazy in office.

I think this is a good move.

Oh, sure...Ballmer isn't going to stay in charge of the XBox division. Just until he finds the right guy to head it up. This particular move isn't that unusual.

And, as someone else said, the XBoxOne isn't targetted at gamers. Not exclusively. This is part of the plan to get MS deep into all aspects of computing...from phones to tablets and from consoles to PC's. Someone using the XBox will have access to the same media as phone users on up to the PC user.

Good move, Ballmer.

btw, for those of you who hate the new Windows...and all the things coming with it...you are dinosaurs. You will fall by the wayside or get on board. Your children will appreciate MS more than you do.

yeah, our kids enjoy minecraft like its Digital Legos with infinite possibilities. i hate to see that but its better than baby blocks. i just wish black ops adult games werent the same game over and over again. fuck god.

avatar

My children use Macs. I, OTOH, am indifferent about Win8.

avatar

The Mac

im mostly indifferent as well.

win7 is rock solid, i see no reason to bother unless its free.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Cool story, bro.

avatar

The first thing Ballmer should do is increase the number of irrelevant ads for XBL Gold Members on their dashboard.

The first xbox and xbox 360 was made by people that know games his name was J Allard.

Most of them are gone that is why the xbox one sucks so bad and things started to suck when don mattrick came around AKA avtars kinect and all the other crap they did to the xbox 360.

They all think the new xbox sucks.

The Clown responsible for that Windows 8 Lemon is now in charge of Xbox One? Sony will have a very good year thanks to Microsoft's bad decisions!

avatar

Cregan89

Why does everyone keep saying this? Steve Ballmer has never been in charge of Windows product development. Steven Sinofsky was at the time of Windows 8's release (and also Windows 7), and now Julie Larson-Green is.

avatar

Hirantha

he doesn't have to be part of the devs.. he is the C freaking EO

avatar

fung0

If Ballmer can't hire the right people, or guide them into making the right decisions, then what exactly is his job? I'm sure he'd be quick to take credit for any successes... hypothetically speaking, of course.

avatar

AFDozerman

Too bad he isn't stepping down as ceo to do this.

avatar

boidsonly

Uh Oh.

Watch M$ stock now...

Good thing I went with pre-ordering the PS4, not both as I was contemplating.

avatar

jbitzer

Yep, It's still higher than it was for the last 3 years, guess i better panic sell though since you preordered PS4!!!!

avatar

John Pombrio

I DID NOT see this coming. Mr. Ballmer has to delegate this job to someone who knows the business and soon. There are just too many open questions about the nitty-gritty of the XBox One that is not being answered.

avatar

someuid

Expect more of this. Those top level people didn't get there because they sat around and accepted what was thrown their way. None of them will quitely sit there and wait for Ballmer to swing his ax.

They're all keeping their eyes open for other opportunities.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Wow. He's douched up Windows pretty good. Can't wait to see him sink the XBox, too. ***************.

avatar

bloodgain

Well, if I hadn't already been convinced to go with Team Sony this time around, I am now.

Ballmer's history of listening to consumers and market research is not good, and I feel like that's a bad quality for someone heading a video game division.

Just look at Nintendo. They've stayed afloat thanks to giving their customers what they want. It helps that Miyamoto and Fils-Aime have the imagination and spirit of the younger gamer crowd, but mostly they've delivered first-party content that people want. However, look at where they didn't pay attention to the market: HD capability, a "normal" controller option, and online play (*I* don't care about online, but the market does). Where they didn't listen to the market, they lost serious ground to Sony and Microsoft.

Nooooo!...

Oh, Jesus, nooooo...

Oh Sure....

It's all fun and games untill it's all fun and games

I can't help but think if Microsoft wanted the Xbox to be successful with Gamers, they would look for gamers from the gaming community to lead the Xbox development, and make it what gamers Really want.

avatar

limitbreaker

I don't know about that, most gamers are not very intelligent and besides, Sony already has a gamers console.
