Sceptre Claims It's the First to Unveil an HDTV with Integrated Blu-ray Player

Sceptre, which describes itself as "a leading innovator for LCD/HDTV for over 27 years," unveiled its 2012 lineup of HDTVs during CES 2012 in Las Vegas, including 3D televisions with integrated Blu-ray, a world's first, according to the company . Sharp would disagree, having unveiled a pair of 3DTVs with built-in Blu-ray players back in 2010, but unlike Sharp's devices, Sceptre's screen will ship in the U.S. sometime this year.

More accurately, Sceptre's set is the first 42-inch LED with integrated Blu-ray , a claim we're unable to disprove with a quick Google search. It's part of Sceptre's 3D DVD Series, which will also include a 32-inch set with a built-in DVD player.

Sceptre has plenty on tap for 2012, including:

  • 3D LED Series: 3D LED HDTVs in 32-inch, 42-inch, and 55-inch sizes featuring 1920x1080 resolution and polarized glasses.
  • Super Slim LED Series: Consists of slim model 40-inch and 46-inch HDTVs, each with four HDMI ports.
  • LED Sound Base System: Sound dock for LED units ranging from 32-inch to 40-inch screens.
  • Color Easy LED Series: 22-inch and 32-inch HDTVs with interchangeable colors to match your room or mood. Colors available in black, white, blue, green, purple, and pink.
  • DVD LED Series: Nothing fancy here, just 19-inch, 24-inch, and 32-inch LED HDTVs with integrated DVD players.
  • Slim Family (1, II, and III): Ultra thin sets ranging in size from 19 inches to 42 inches.
  • LCD Series: 40-inch and 50-inch LCD HDTVs.

Pricing and availability was not announced for any of the above HDTV series.
