Samsung Will "Never" Purchase webOS

Hewlett Packard insists it isn't abandoning the software side of webOS, it just doesn't want to build the accompanying hardware anymore (or PCs, for that matter). Should HP change its mind and start to shop around its mobile OS, the OEM can go ahead and take Samsung off its list of potential buyers. Samsung simply isn't interested in purchasing webOS, or anyone else's operating system, for that matter.

"It's not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion," Samsung's Chief Executive Officer, Choi Gee Sung, said in Berlin during the IFA consumer electronics show, according to Bloomberg .

Samsung is more interested in its own mobile operating system called Bada, and is working on it "harder than people outside think." All that said, would Samsung consider webOS if it went up for sale? One word answer: "Never."

Samsung was one of the names analysts have been throwing around as having interest in acquiring webOS, and so have HTC and Facebook, both of which declined to comment.
