Last month, Samsung launched an ultrabook under the Series 5 brand in its home market of South Korea. The company, however, has remained tightlipped on any plans for a U.S. release of the Series 5 ultrabook. Thanks to a couple of premature
pre-order listings on online retailer J&R
, we now know the price of both models.
Although no longer available, the two listings stayed long enough on the site to reveal that the price of the 13-inch model will be $849 and that of its 14-inch counterpart $949. The Series 5 ultrabooks feature an anti-reflective 1366×768 display, Intel Core i5-2467M processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, a 500GB HDD with 16GB Express Cache, Intel HD Graphics 3000, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth V3.0 HS, and a 1.3MP HD camera. You’ll also find a USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, headphone/microphone combo and HDMI.
Further, the 14-inch model is unique in that it’s the first ultrabook to pack an optical drive. It weighs around 4 lbs and is 20.9mm thick. As you would expect, the 13-inch model is not only lighter at just 3.24 lbs, but also significantly thinner with its 14.9 mm thick frame.
It’s claimed that the Series 5 is capable of booting from hibernation in around 7 seconds and from sleep mode in just 2 seconds. Of course, these boot times are only possible due to its SSD/HDD hybrid drive.
