Valve has updated the SteamVR feature it debuted earlier this year, adding support for the Oculus Rift DK2 head-mounted display (HMD) that began shipping late last month. With this update, the still-in-beta SteamVR, which is essentially a Steam interface for HMDs like the Oculus Rift, now supports positional tracking on Windows and OSX. Road to VR has published a step-by-step guide on how to get SteamVR and Half-Life 2 to work with the Oculus Rift DK2.
According to the same website, demand for the $350 DK2 is very strong, with Oculus VR, the company behind the device, having received orders for as many as 60,000 units, out of which 20,000 units have already reached buyers. The company recently updated the Oculus Rift DK2 order page to let everyone know that “new orders are expected to begin shipping in October 2014.”
