Good news if you were one of the unlucky few who have been experiencing color output problems ever since Microsoft rolled out its major dashboard update back in December 2011. A new mandatory update is supposed to kick the unwanted "colorspace issue" to the curb so you can watch videos without washed out colors and poor black levels, which were the most common complaints.
"In this update, we are providing a fix to a color issue that some were experiencing, and it will be immediately notable in the dashboard. The fix is also being applied by partners to their apps on Xbox Live, which we expect to roll out over the coming months," Microsoft announced via Major Nelson.
Microsoft also said the update will "increase performance," but declined to get into any specifics.
In related news, Sony has begun rolling out an optional system software update (v4.11) for its PlayStation 3 console. It's a minor firmware upgrade intended to "improve certain aspects of system software, and is not mandatory to connect to PSN."
