Webroot on Tuesday introduced its consumer portfolio of SecureAnywhere, supposedly the "industry's fastest, lightest, least demanding protection." This is an entirely new product from Webroot, one that it built from the ground-up to simplify security. It exists almost entirely in the cloud, where a continually updated database offers multi-platform protection against zero-day and zero-hour threats, or at least that's the idea.
"For far too long, people have endured a miserable experience with their PC security," said Dick Williams, CEO, Webroot. "Security vendors, including Webroot, have expected customers to buy, install, and manage security products by themselves. This industry has been delivering products that are less and less effective against threats from zero-day exploits, social engineering, and other sophisticated techniques we see today. Webroot is taking the misery out of security. Webroot SecureAnywhere is the fastest, lightest, and the least demanding – so people are free to do what they want online."
Webroot says it crammed 124 customizable settings into a 6MB program that's 3.5 times faster than the average leading antivirus product. Deep scans are supposed to take less than two minutes on most systems. There are no signature updates to download, relying instead on various levels of behavioral analysis to block threats, both new and old. This is cloud security fully realized, or at least that's what Webroot is shooting for, along with building a security program you won't bleeping hate (semi-safe and hilarious YouTube video with lots of bleeped out language).
