Early on Monday, some users noticed that all references to the Zune HD were scrubbed from Microsoft’s website. It seemed an inevitable decision considering Microsoft’s new focus on smartphones, but the Zune isn’t quite dead yet. Noting the error, Redmond restored the ill-fated PMP to its obscure position.
Microsoft called the incident a “mistake”, but many have wondered aloud if maybe Microsoft wasn’t just testing the waters to see if anyone noticed. The Zune HD was a peppy little device for its time back in 2009. It ran a Nvidia Tegra chip, an OLED screen, and came in 16 and 32GB capacities. Still, the device was a flop when put up against the iPod Touch.
To this day, the Zune HD has not officially been discontinued, but it can’t be far off. How long do you think the Zune HD has to live? We would wager that today’s “mistake” will be repeated for real before too long.
