In the future, we'll all have jetpacks, flying cars, meals in a pill, and affordable OLED televisions. Can you guess which one of those is the front runner to materialize in 2012? If you cheated and read the headline, pat yourself on the back anyway, you got it right (and if not, you're wrong, jetpacks are too much of a TSA nightmare to go mainstream any time soon).
LG Electronics recently announced it plans to bring its 55-inch OLED HDTV to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month, but declined to say when it will ship to retail and how much it will cost. According to Bloomberg, LG is making a push to start selling its fancy OLED TV in the second half of this year as it attempts to bolster slumping TV sales.

That tidbit has our wallet sweating quarters and dimes, but LG insists it's overcome the two barriers of OLED technology: size and cost. Come 2H 2012, we'll find out if LG was waxing truthful or blowing smoke up our backsides.
