“If your PC is running Windows 8 Pro and you'd like to get Windows 8 Media Center Pack so you can watch and record live TV with Windows Media Center, you can take advantage of the following special offer,” the site reads. “For a limited time, get Windows 8 Media Center Pack for free.”
Adding media center back to the desktop side of Windows 8 is done through the “add features” part of the OS rather than the app store, meaning if you have more than one PC you technically can only use the code on one machine. The offer is one code per email address however, so if you have a few spare kicking around it couldn’t hurt to stock up if you’re a media center fan.
The app is still great, but considering that it’s basically being sent out to pasture, we would recommend looking into alternatives sooner rather than later. It’s still a great piece of software, but will it be in Windows 9? We doubt it.
