Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang was on hand at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) this week with camera in tow, and one of the first stops he made was over at AMD's booth. AMD, if you've been following the news this week, just recently unveiled a couple of FX 9000 Series processors, including the world's first 5GHz chip for consumers, the FX-9590 with 8 physical processing cores.
Part of AMD's booth was dedicated to showing off its FX-9590 in a liquid cooled setup flanked by a Radeon HD 7990. The system was being used to drive a five-way Eyefinity setup running Tomb Raider.
AMD is clearly focused on gaming, both on the desktop and mobile platforms. Thang was shown several thin and light notebooks with AMD hardware inside, all capable of running games.
"As a company we are investing considerable resources into making sure people can play games on whatever platform they have, if it's powered by AMD," AMD's booth manager, Robert, told Thang. "Everybody's a gamer, they just don't know it yet."
