HTC is a big reason why Google's Android platform has been so successful in the smartphone space, providing the first real alternatives to Apple's iPhone. Can HTC push Android to the same heights in the tablet space? We're about to find out. Starting today, Best Buy is posting HTC's Wi-Fi Flyer tablet up for pre-sale, which will ship later this spring. This highly anticipated device runs Android with an HTC Sense overlay, and will retail for $500.
"We are excited to be the only national store where you can pre-order and purchase the Wi-Fi version of the HTC Flyer," said Scott Anderson, head of merchandising for Best Buy Mobile. "There is a tremendous amount of excitement and curiosity about tablets in our stores and adding the HTC Flyer to the mix will drive even more interest."
Don't think of HTC's Flyer as an iPad killer (maybe that will come later). The Flyer is a 7-inch tablet which, despite it's smaller form factor, packs a good amount of hardware in and around it. It's powered by a 1.5GHz processor and includes 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 5MP rear-facing camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro-USB port, and other odds and ends.
Are you looking forward to the Flyer, or are you only interested in 10.1-inch tablets?
