After raking in more money than many small nations from a single game – not to mention getting to meet Mr. T – most people would become complacent. Not Blizzard, though. The PC behemoth's officially going full-steam ahead with its next massively multiplayer megaton, and it's certainly not being shy about its pie-in-the-sky plan: to “eclipse” World of Warcraft.
“I believe [it's] the most ambitious thing we’ve ever attempted,” Blizzard COO Paul Sams told Gamasutra. “And I feel like we have set our company up to succeed on that. We have some of our most talented and most experienced developers on that team. Many of the people that built World of Warcraft are full time on that other team.”
“As it relates to that other [MMO], we think that it’s going to be very impactful in our industry and, we hope, very impactful to the world. We think that that will be, after Diablo III, the next big thing from us. The thing that we hope will happen is that it will not stop World of Warcraft but we believe will eclipse it.”
Bear in mind that “next” in Blizzard Standard Time could still be quite a ways off – especially since the MMO, codenamed “Titan,” isn't even slated for a reveal until 2012. Not that we're complaining, mind you; it just means we have more time to accomplish all our hopes and dreams before we're inevitably sucked into an addiction that devours the rest of our lives.
