Ok, atthis rate, you'll have enough information to construct and release your own Battlefield 3 by the end of the week. Even so, compared to everything so far, this is pretty much the BF3 Bible. Game Informer's latest issue ran a blowout on the game, you see, and the Internet immediately devoured it and gained its knowledge. That should be absolutely terrifying, but look! Battlefield 3!
Foremost, you'll be happy to hear that PC is – without a doubt – the game's lead development platform. By comparison, console players may as well be playing Minor Altercation Field, with only 24 players. That's a whopping 40 less than the PC version.
In terms of nitty gritty stuff, you'll be able to pick from four different classes, but DICE is keeping its lips zipped about squads until “later.” As far as Battlefield's fields of battle, we already knew about Tehran, Paris, and New York, but now Sulaymaniyah and Iraqi Kurdistan are in the mix as well. So, how do you add another slab of pure, unadulterated testosterone to this manwhich of guns, guts, and glory? Accessorize, of course!
“There’s a challenge between personalizing and keeping it uniform. We will do more in that area, making sure that you can get your character to be more personalized both in a visual way and more specifically in the way you gear up. We did a good job I would argue with Bad Company 2 with specializations, different scopes and different weapons – you can kind of find your way of playing the game, which broadens the game for more people,” said producer Patrick Bach.
He also added that “pink rabbit hats” aren't on the table at the moment. Bummer.
Beyond that, a “significant narrative” is in the works for single-player, but DICE didn't delve into specifics. Other fun (and occasionally mindblowing details): the BF3 dev team is twice the size of BFBC2's, one BF3 lighting probe will contain more data than an entire Bad Company 2 level, and – unfortunately – mod tools won't be available straight out of the box because DICE doesn't want to dumb them down.
So there you go. Battlefield 3. You know everything about it now. If you don't have any questions, we're gonna go lie down. Or rather, go prone, because we're PC gamers, and we can do that.
