Free software is great, but the nagware that comes with it is not. Though we understand the concept behind blaring pop-up windows reminding you that you’re using freeware, the occasional nag screen can be a bit much when you’re in the middle of something. ClickOff is a great alternative to dealing with this irritating nagware--simply launch the lightweight program, select a window, and press Ctrl + Alt + D to add it to the ClickOff list. This will ensure that the program’s pop-up windows will be "zapped" the minute they appear on screen.

You can also configure the advanced settings so that ClickOff does more than just close the pop-up window; it can minimize or maximize windows, automatically select an “OK” button, or fill in text in a required field, though ClickOff suggests against using this function because it’s not encrypted. Unfortunately, you can't censor the annoying pop-ups that come with trial version of virus scanners, but you can set it up to close windows that contain certain words, as well as block pop-up windows from certain sites in Firefox. And, you can set up ClickOff to display timed pop up windows that allow you a moment to decide whether or not you want to purchase the paid version.
Every Wednesday, we pick a new free or shareware download as our favorite of the week. Have a nifty application that you can't live without? Send suggestions to fion [AT] futureus.com with "Download of the Week" in the subject line.
