Acer began small volume shipments of their 10.1-inch Aspire One netbooks today in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It’s expected that large volume shipments for larger, global markets will begin in mid-February.
Acer’s Chairman J.T. Wang also stated that Acer is looking to adopt strong policies toward promoting netbooks in 2009, with a target of shipping 12-15 million units.
Supposedly, Acer has ordered up to nine million 10.1-inch panels for this year alone, and they’re expected to outsource 80-90 percent of their netbooks to Compal Electronics.
