Does Wi-Fi Make You Sneeze?

Silly as that sounds, a group in Santa Fe claims the city is discriminating against them because they say they're allergic to Wi-Fi signals. "I get chest pain and it doesn't go away right way, said a member of the group. The group seeks to have Wi-Fi banned from public buildings, claiming that Wi-Fi in public places is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. 0_o

California Man Didn't Get the Memo

Reminiscent of the plot from the movie Office Space, Californian Michael Largent allegedly used a loophole to collect more than $50,000 from Google Checkout and online brokerage firms, UK based PC Pro reports. According to court documents, Largent used an automated script to open 58,000, allowing him to collect many thousands of small verification payments similar to the way PayPal works when opening an new account. Largent claims he never ran afoul of the any terms of service, but because he used false names, addresses, and social security numbers, he now faces charges of wire, bank, and mail fraud.

Mac OSX Update

Apple has released the Mac OS X 10.5.3 update yesterday and is recommended for users running Mac OS X 10.5, 10.5.1, and 10.5.2 Leopard. The update addresses numerous issues in everything from the Address Book to Time Machine and everything in between, including several security patches.

Blogger Discovers Dell's Low-Cost Laptop

Dell had hoped to keep their upcoming ultraportable laptop under wraps a bit longer, but decided to release pictures of the upcoming notebook after a Gizmodo blogger spotted Michael Dell carrying it around. Details still remain sparse, but the laptop appears to sport a 9-inch screen with a built-in camera, and the names of images suggest it will be called "Mini Inspiron." Speculation also suggests the new laptop be based on the Diamonville version of Intel's Atom processor.

Asus Announces Instant-On Feature

In other mobile computing news, five new laptop models from Asus will incorporate DeviceVM's Splashtop instant-on software, Asus said today at Computex. Splashtop is an embedded Linux OS with both Firefox and Skype, giving users the ability to browse the web right away. The Asus M70T, M50V, M51T, F8Va, and F8Vr will be the first notebooks to include the instant-on feature, with availability expected at the end of June or early July.

Supercar to Get 220+ MPG

Taking green to whole new level, Moorseville, NC-based Hybrid Technologies hopes to serve up a high-end exotic hybrid capable of 220+ MPG for mainstream consumption. And for those looking to avoid gas stations altogether, HT is aiming for a 150 to 180 mile per charge from an all-electric model, with a drivable prototype expected to be ready by September.
