We uses a combination of real-world and synthetic benchmarks in order to measure videocard performance. Since April, 2005, all benchmark tests have been run on an Athlon test system, which includes an nForce4 SLI motherboard, a 2.6GHz AMD Athlon FX-55 CPU, and 2GB of DDR SDRAM. We use the same test bed for an extended period of time, so that we can make apples-to-apples comparisons between cards.

Doom 3 tests are conducted with the game patched to version 1.3. We use Timedemo1 at High Quality and 1600x1200 resolution with 4x anti-aliasing.

Far Cry tests are conducted with the game patched to version 1.33. In order to ensure repeatability, we use the Boat level and measure framerates using FRAPS. Resolution is set to 1600x1200 resolution with 4x anti-aliasing and 8x anisotropic filtering. All quality settings are set to High, except for Water, which is set to Ultra High.

3DMark03 and 3DMark05 benchmark numbers are obtained running the programs at their default settings.

3DMark03 Game 2 and Game 4 framerates are obtained at 1600x1200 resolution with 4x anti-aliasing and 8x aniostropic filtering enabled.

Our HQV score is derived from the HQV Benchmark DVD, which measures the videocard's performance displaying DVD movies.
