General Lee To Be Resurrected!

Somewhere out there, Boss Hogg is lighting up a celebratory cigar with Roscoe P. Coltrane belching out his trademark bumbling laugh in the background. What's got those Hazzard County law officials so happy? Seeing one of them Duke boys taste a bit of misfortune, of course! Actor John Schneider (best known for playing Bo Duke) recently auctioned off his '69 Charger, complete with the Dixie themed paint job and autographs from the original cast. And while it never appeared on the TV show, it was used in the first Dukes of Hazzard movie before Warner Bros. bastardized the remake. Seriously, Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg? Bah!). More than 60 bidders got in on the action, with the winning bid reaching a whopping $9,900,500.00. This would have ranked as the highest amount ever paid for an EBay auction, despite not including a night with Jessica Simpson (the modern day Daisy Duke), à la Indecent Proposal (I checked). It was almost the sale of a lifetime for Schneider, who frequently sells Dukes of Hazzard themed autographed memorabilia, and he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling non-paying bidders (oops, wrong reference!).

The auction ended on May 7th, and if everything had gone to plan, the 1980s TV star intended to use part of the profit to fund his his upcoming B-title flick, Collier and Co. 2 (the sequel to Collier and Co. Hot Pursuit!, in case you missed the first one). But after three days of unanswered emails and phone calls, John left the the non-paying bidder, fishbashr1, negative feedbacking stating "This is the guy that for fun, decided to bid on the General Lee. Thanks...." In response, fishbashr1 (who changed his identity to madysdadi) left positive feedback for John saying "I HOPE THEY FIND OUT WHO DID THIS TO YOU!! Let know if I can help!!!!", seemingly indicating that his account was hacked. Either way, expect to see the General Lee offered for sale again (time and place still to be determined), giving wealthy Duke fans a second chance to own a piece of nostalgia. As for me, I'll cling to my childhood memories of taking my miniature toy replica of the General Lee over manufactured jumps in my folks' living room and backyard, potentially saving myself millions in the process. Now that's something to Yeee-Haaawww about!
