I'm not having problems with my mouse gaming yet, but I lost my touchpad shortcuts. I used to be able to swype from the left and switch between apps (which is very useful when I have a game open cause I can switch to desktop by swyping) and swype from the right and bring up the charms menu. Now when I swype it just moves my mouse over on the screen.

Not a single issue with 8.1 and my G500s. And yes, I am currently playing the the DC of Deus Ex. Not sure if it has the same issue as the non DC one but no issue with mouse acceleration. In fact, 8.1 fixed my issue with Walking Dead mouse acceleration. Its a lot smoother now and not as jumpy.

I have a razer Oroborous and I am having problems with mine. The dpi will suddenly increase by a lot when in game vs out of game. And im talking about moving from 6400 dpi out of game to 2400 dpi to get the game to feel right. I am also using razer Synapse as well.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

2012/2013 Razer Naga. No problems here. (though I am not running the Synapse 2.0 from Razer either)

avatar

TheRyGuy

I have 2 Windows 8.1 systems, and have had no problems with either of them for gaming. I like the OS. Keep the improvements coming!

There is a lot of misinformation in these comments. First of all the mouse is fine in Windows 8.1 when not in a game and is also fine in newer games that have raw input, such as BF4.

The problem occurs when playing a game that uses WM_MOUSEMOVE. CoD and Deus Ex: Human Revolution are two examples. These games are unplayable for everyone on 8.1.

If you are saying there is nothing wrong then you are misinformed and most likely play games that have raw input. However the majority of PC games do not have this.

As for me I have to dual boot with 8 and 8.1 right now until this problem is fixed.

avatar

pastorbob

rjohnsonca - I don't see where anybody has said there isn't a problem. What they have all said, myself included, is they haven't experienced any issues with their particular systems.

Perhaps you should look up the definition of "misinformed".

avatar

rjohnsonca

And what I've said is that everyone has the problem. If you haven't experienced any issues it's because the games you are playing don't use WM_MOUSEMOVE.

"The only problems are the fact that they do not know how to find the mouse settings in the charms menu. Had the issue, then checked there and fixed it."
"If you do have this issue, run whatever .exe for the game you're trying to play in compatibility mode for Windows 8. it'll work."

That is misinformation.

And you upgraded 4 systems to 8.1 and haven't seen a single mouse issue? That's great, but what does that have to do with this? "many are experiencing mouse problems DURING GAMES" I can safely assume that you are not gaming on all 4 of these systems, so saying you haven't seen a single issue is basically misinformation. This is not about experiencing mouse problems in general Windows use, but in games. Perhaps you should look up reading comprehension.

Compre-what?

For someone who claims to hate disinfo, I have 8.1, Deus Ex: HR is not unplayable for me. Stop claiming that you know what you're talking about.

avatar

rjohnsonca

Well you are probably a noob using a 5000 DPI laser mouse with accel. *Unplayable for anyone with a proper setup

avatar

big_montana

So, a laser mouse is not considered "proper setup"" I thought all gamers used adjustable dpi laser mice? If not you must be a noob

avatar

rjohnsonca

No professional FPS players use laser mice. Anyway I was only trying to be helpful in my first post but an 8.1 fanboy wanted to say I don't know what I'm talking about. So it was only a response to a person that is clearly a noob. I don't care what equipment people use.

avatar

bigrigross

lol professional gamers hahaha. A professional gamer will use whatever they are comfortable with. Heck, im no professional but I play CSS with a laser mouse at 4000 DPI and at .4 sensitivity. Gives the best tracking for me. I also play at 800x600. Plenty of professionals use laser mice. They even have configs for both of their optical and laser mouse setups. At least on CS and CSS.

avatar

rjohnsonca

No they don't. Maybe a tiny amount do but almost every one prefers optical. The configs for their laser mice you see on sites like SteelSeries are there because of sponsorships and they don't really use them. It's not about comfort, it's because all laser mice have some inherent acceleration in the sensor (Avago 9500 is the sensor used in most). So they aren't as consistent. The only pro level gamer in all of Quake Live that uses a laser mouse is k1llsen.

avatar

pastorbob

Updated 4 different systems to 8.1 and haven't seen a single mouse issue.

Price to pay for a start button =) I still have win 8 regular won't upgrade because they took out the awesome WIE.

Dear Microsoft,

Thanks for adding yet another negative to Windows 8. This should hopefully get your minds right on Windows 9 and make it a true PC operating system again. Pouring out a 40 of Haterade just for you, bros.

P.S. "One experience for everything in your life." That is really beginning to take on a new meaning. LOL

avatar

maxeeemum

Another M$ lesson! Never update right away! Especially a Service Pack (Win8.1). You should wait at least 2 months for them and 2 weeks on the second Tuesday monthly updates. That's a minimum! Live and learn!

avatar

Lonestar166

No issues here using my R.A.T.7.

avatar

AFDozerman

HUGE issues with my RAT5.

avatar

Blackbird24

Same here mostly when playing BF4 with my Rat 9

avatar

nadako

I normally always had issues with my RAT 9 and have come to love the razer orobourous instead.

avatar

bshemi

aahhh. Windows 7 works like a dream (and vista too)

avatar

trog69

I bought a gaming laptop last year and went with Win7, so I'm with you there; Vista, however is not even close to the same status as Win8 or Win7. Perhaps people using it for everyday internet use had no real issues, but I can guarantee that there are a lot of gamers who were desperate to upgrade from Vista. It was horrendously inadequate for component matching, and many game developers had so many issues with Vista that they flat-out refused to accept it as a valid OS for their games. So no support from that end, either.

There is nothing I was happier to upgrade from than Vista.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

double post

avatar

PCLinuxguy

Vista SP2 was smooth and set a great foundation for Windows 7 to enter onto, Windows 7 was kind of like Vista SP3 in a way. Windows 8 works great for gaming, but 8.1 causes quite a few Steam games to crash so I've remained on 8.0 until that gets resolved. the HTPC runs 8.1 and hasn't changed, it's still very smooth. Though I don't game on it.

avatar

Vader225

The only problems are the fact that they do not know how to find the mouse settings in the charms menu. Had the issue, then checked there and fixed it.

**Insert Nelson laugh here**

More paint on the W8 coffin for me, please. A bit more and we'll use some lacquer to make it even more shiny....with electrolytes!

They say that they were aware of the issue, but for how long? Has it been since the launch? Even before that? Things like this shouldn't happen, unless it's on the user side.

avatar

michaellstokes

If you do have this issue, run whatever .exe for the game you're trying to play in compatibility mode for Windows 8. it'll work.

avatar

OrganicSoldier

I haven't had problems as some have had like the mouse seemingly moving on its own in game, but it's given my mouse a different feel, and it makes aiming in something like a FPS damn near impossible. Its almost as if the update made slow mouse movements slower and fast ones faster, but not consistent. Only game I can stand to play on 8.1 is minecraft, but even that is frustrating.

avatar

lordfirefox

The issues with mouse input on some games is the reason why I haven't updated to 8.1 yet. Someone of you won't experience the issue because you're not playing the same games that people with the issue have. One of the games is Deus Ex: Human Revolution and another that I have is Don't Starve, both games have been reported on having issues with the mouse in Windows 8.1

Don't assume that just because you don't have the issue that it won't affect you at some point because it depends on what games you play.

avatar

igoka

This is really funny to read . Comments like " i had mouse for over 5 years i don't have any issue " I mean really ? I never heard about that problem before this article . In my point of view if that would cause 1 percent of gamers to suffer MS wouldn't give a shit. Probably it's big that's why they can't hide it anymore.

avatar

LesserAnimal

really? reallyy???? did you spend effort forming that opinion? 20% would be more than significant enough for ms to make a response and still leave plenty of probability for people to report no issues found since they would be in the majority. The assumption that the existence of a bug mandates most users experience them is wrong.

Logitech G5. nearing 14 years. Have one still in box as back up. No issues in 8.1

Tri boot system. I uses 7 a lot still because my companies poorly coded programs require me too. See no difference in mouse behavior. Your 10 second malformed opinion is arbitrary at best.

avatar

Volleynova

Happy to report, no mouse issues here.

Windows 8.1 for several months now, and my five year old Logitech G9.

avatar

TheFrawg

Zero problems here, Logitech G400. Been running 8.1 since it went live on the developer channel, upgraded to the public release when it went out.

avatar

scotters

The mouse problems for gaming on 8.1 are terrible. It was so bad for me that I completely wiped my machine and re-installed to 8.0. Glad to hear they're working on a fix though.

Using a logitech g9.

avatar

kixofmyg0t

I don't have any issues either, using a Logitech G500 with a USB extender. Maybe these people should think about using a newer mouse or something.

avatar

Nachjager

Using same mouse and had zero issues with BF4 and BF3, the only games I currently play. I am also using Win 8.1 Enterprise so can't say if this version doesn't suffer the mouse problems reported on the Web.

avatar

trog69

Rather than suggesting that people buy a newer mouse, what's wrong with waiting for MS to either apply a fix or list incompatible mice and suggest work-arounds. I don't think that's too much to ask people already shelling out money for an OS.

avatar

OrganicSoldier

Or maybe Microsoft should fix the problems in 8.1? I've never had this kind of mouse problem in 95, 98, XP, Vista, 7, or 8. Used the same mouse for the last 4. 8.1 suddenly screwed it up. And no its not my mouse, because if I boot into 7 I have zero problems.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

You get paid for that?

avatar

kixofmyg0t

Get paid for what?

Ohhh I get it. You're trolling because you don't like Windows 8 and ANYONE that doesn't have a opinion exactly like yours is getting paid by Microsoft right? Grow up dude. Just because you're too stupid to learn something new doesn't mean that the OS is as horrible as you think.

It even has a desktop. But I'm sure you weren't aware of that.

EDIT: You know for someone that claims to hate Win 8 you sure do make a point to visit EVERY SINGLE POST ABOUT IT. You'd think that if you weren't interested in something you wouldn't bother to read it. Nope. Not you. I bet you secretly envy everyone else that figured out how to click the desktop tile huh? Fricken pathetic.

avatar

limitbreaker

lol thats funny, the windows 8 hate is getting old. I disliked 8 but 8.1 is actually really good and useful.
Boots directly to desktop and now we have a start button which if you right click will give you a ton of options, left click brings you to the Metro screen but now you can turn your metro screen into something very useful.
It's not perfect but it's much better than windows 8.0 and hopefully 8.2 will be even better :-)

Honestly... after this new version i'm quite happy and glad microsoft released windows that's both desktop and tablet friendly :-)

avatar

HouseFoxx

When Teamspeak is my only active window on the desktop and I press my side mouse button to activate PTT, it sets the window as inactive and I can't click on anything until I press the 3 finger salute and open the task manager.

avatar

Mkloppel

I play tons of games weekly on windows 8. Have for the past 6+ months.

I love this operating system after having flawlessly updated from windows 7.

Do not hesitate and when you do try and learn all the little quick mouse shortcuts for going between programs and screens.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

LOL M$ employees tasked with damage control. Poor Smurfs....

avatar

igoka

Ha , ha ha lol indeed. Nobody even said anything about windows. I mean learn shorcuts ? Whatta ? I tough we are talking about gamer mouse issues ?

avatar

LesserAnimal

there are billions of valid criticisms to be made of windows 8 and you make none choosing instead to accuse random people of lying because their mouse works. what jack off planet are you from? we get it you're mad you had to reinstall windows to get instant gratification. its not anyone's problem that you find it difficult to do. Blame yourself. There were plenty of available options to ensure you could easily go back if you wanted to and you did none of them. That's called poor planning. I've taught so many morons how to do it you can't even claim its difficult in defense.

Bother to check when he joined up here? He created the account to make that post.
