I purchased a One controller and tried the unofficial drivers. They were horrendous. Microsoft's drivers work perfectly. The One controller easily surpasses the already excellent 360 controller. The triggers are particularly great, but the D-pad is a vast improvement as well. I absolutely love it.

It's not certain at this point whether Microsoft will release a wireless USB receiver. I know they stopped producing the one for the 360 controller, but there were 3rd party alternatives available (that use the official drivers flawlessly).

Major Nelson had previously mentioned that MS would be releasing a new SKU for the One controller that targets the PC. Hopefully it includes either a nice long, soft USB cable or a new wireless receiver. It'd be nice to see MS put their money where their mouth is and actually back PC gaming with their fantastic controller.

I'm looking at getting one but curious... The 360 remote always felt comfortable to hold but IMO the analog sticks required too much force before they actually moved and by the time I added the requisite force, the movement was exaggerated. For console gaming, I use a PS3 and love the analog sticks but as far as I know, the PS motes don't play nice with the PC.

Are the analog sticks on the One remote as stiff as the 360?

That's cool. So if/whenever I find a reason to shell out a few Jacksons for this, my wired 360 controllers still work on PC (despite one being >5 years old), I'll be good to go.

Any way to get wireless working? I'm using the wireless USB dongle with 2 360 controllers and it's great.

As far as I'm aware, there is no way to use the XB1 controller wirelessly. Microsoft will probably release a new dongle for those who want to though.

I'd like to know the same thing.

I got my XBOX One Controller specifically for Star Citizen / Arena Commander, and my goodness, the game is so much better with it.

No manual driver download needed. I have Windows 8.1 x64 Pro. I simply plugged it into the USB port, Windows Update kicked in and got me drivers just like that.

Go to Control Panel, Game Controllers and test out your XBOX One controller on PC. Works like a charm.

No problem, so far so good. Now I get to decide if I want to play GTA V PC this fall with keyboard & mouse or this controller. ;)

Do you have to have batteries in the controller for it work with the USB cable?

You won't need batteries since it is connected to your PC via USB cable.
