Panasonic Blu-ray Players, Now with Skype

Paul Lilly

Skype continues to make a mad dash for your living room any way it can. The latest union of Skype's VoIP service and your living room hardware comes from pairing Skype with Panasonic's Viera Cast Blu-ray player lineup, which includes the ability to make Skype video and voice calls supported by the Freetalk Conference Camera.

Compatible Blu-ray players will ship with a remote control that includes a devoted Skype button. Just click the button to access Skype, which allows you to use Skype as you normally would, including features such as:

  • Standby Mode: create personalized ring tones
  • Answering Message: create a personalized messaged for when you're away
  • SD Voice Mail: automatically record messages onto an SD card

If you plan to video chat or make voice calls, you'll need the Freetalk camera. It's a $99 add-on that includes a wide-angle lens and beam-forming microphones.
