OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro Qx2 Stores 12TB of Data in RAID

If you're finding that, as you get older, your digital file collection is growing faster than your receding hairline, then OWC's Mercury Elite-Al Pro Qx2 storage container might be just what you've been looking for. Inside this desktop sized aluminum enclosure is up to 12TB of storage/backup, which is provided by up to four 3TB hard drives in four hot swappable drive bays. And yes, it supports RAID, as well as a host of other technologies.

Hardware RAID settings include 0, 1, 5, and 10, with 300MB/s data transfers. It all adds up to a ton of storage, and you can add to it via FireWire 800, FireWire 400, USB 2.0, and eSATA, or "Quad Interface," as OWC pitches the connectivity options.

If you're worried about everything going belly up, OWC says its storage solution was designed for 24/7 enterprise-class use with a 2 million MTBF rating. It's pre-configured in RAID 5, and "unlike most other brands that are shipped with little or no testing, the OWC Mercury Elite-Al Pro Qx2 12TB as well as the full Qx2 line undergoes a multi-hour 'burn in' performance certification procedure to ensure that the unit is operating properly and ready for demanding use," OWC says.

Pricing starts at $300 for a driveless container.
