"Maximum PC CM will receive the following info: your public profile and friend list."

Er... I'll pass, thanks.

avatar

Rebel_X

Meh, don't have facebook and wont have ever. Why not an option for twitter?!

avatar

supercourier

...what are the first four letters of "twitter?" Case closed.

avatar

jrd417

I've been a subscriber of Maximum PC for over 10 years and I'm getting fed up with being excluded from contests because I don't do social media.
I don't plan to renew my subscription and I will encourage my friends who also subscribe to do likewise.

avatar

Innomasta

Well aren't you so special. Are you tired of sniffing your own farts yet?

avatar

wolfing

(explaining the insult)
what poster said is a typical response from the MMO world. When the developers changed any feature, when you have 10 million customers it's likely that someone won't like it, and their typical response is "How can they do that??? That's it, I'm fed up! I will cancel my subscription and my whole guild will too!" (which in 99% of the cases the person didn't cancel, he'd be complaining about something else a few months later, and in 100% of the cases, the other guild members would be like 'pfft!' and go on playing). Not saying that poster won't really cancel, but just saying we've seen the same post many times, typically means someone thinks they're grander than they really are.

I do feel the same way though (without the cancellation part), I wish they made contests exclusive to forum readers for a change, but that's probably never going to happen.

jrd417

Could someone please explain this young fellows insult, or is this some sort of "in" joke of facebookers?

avatar

The Mac

He is implying that you are "Too Good" to have a facebook account and anyone who suggests you should should be banned

in other words: self-righteous.

avatar

jrd417

@The Mac and wolfing, thanks for the info. All I was stating is I plan to back up my distaste with MPC's business practices with my wallet. That seems to be the only power the consumer has these days. As for including my friends in the statement, I talked them into subscribing and usually have to persuade them into renewing. We are all getting a little upset with the many businesses that require you to have a facebook account to get any perks they might offer.

avatar

I asked my teenage nephew+niece about Facebook and they said that "that's for old people", they use Instagram. Guess soon Facebook will be the new Myspace.

avatar

Jaymondo

Love that comment, Im a old guy, but I totally see where the kids are going with it, facebook is old hat. had its day, time to move on. Why cant these competitions use Twitter ?

avatar

don2041

I refuse to play because it's the evil Facebooks game.

avatar

jhernandez2005

Can we ever have a contest without f**king Facebook...

avatar

vig1lant3

Please refer to the comment made March 3, by yours truly.

avatar

DelroyMonjo

Another FB comeon.....sucks again.

avatar

limitbreaker

Excluding Quebec? :-( what will happen if I give the answer in the comment section?

avatar

johnnytrek1701

Because I live in the province of Quebec, yet another drawing that I can't enter.
Sigh...

avatar

jamd315

It ends on Pi day!

avatar

Mikey109105

LOL, good catch!

avatar

acojonancio

Thank you for this awesome chance and good luck everybody!

avatar

froste

Ive tried on two computers and several different answers but the submit button doesnt work

avatar

jimmthang

Weird. It works for me.

avatar

vig1lant3

Can we ever do a contest that doesn't involve Facebook?!!

avatar

The Mac

doubtful, the whole point of contests is PR and exposure.

avatar

vig1lant3

There was PR and exposure before FB. I don't use FB. I realize I'm only one of 6 billion people that doesn't use it, but I wanna play too!

avatar

The Mac

but you are not one of the 1.23 billion active monthly users...

avatar

Jaymondo

With that number falling every day, as has been said, the kids aren't doing facebook, too old hat, they have moved on.

avatar

vig1lant3

6 billion > 1.23 billion

In other news, 2 + 2 = 4

avatar

The Mac

exposure my firend, esposure: 1.23 billion with little not no work > 6 billion and a shit ton of money.

Or so all those marketing classes i took for my MBA tells me...

avatar

vig1lant3

Guerrilla marketing campaign > Social media marketing campaign.

Your MBA come from West Virginia Southwest Central State Poly-technical, or some other equally obscure fake post-secondary institution? The best return on your dollar is an integrated marketing campaign with some appeal that actually gets people talking.

Give away another computer on FB, very original. Absolutely zero intrusion value there, just like those pics of grandma's cat that the ad is sitting next to...

My Bachelor in Marketing > Your MBA in Marketing

See how I'm building a theme here. Keep it simple. Stay in the consumer's cognitive map.

avatar

The Mac

You might want to get you money refunded from that marketing degree.

Guerrilla campaigns cost money, and personnel.

Something neither MPC or Cyberpower has a lot of.

As Vrmlbasic pointed out below, these campaigns have proven repeatedly that they are extremely effective.

You are clearly not in the target demographic.

avatar

vig1lant3

Oh please?!! You can start a guerrilla marketing campaign with YouTube these days, and generate ad revenue while you do it!! All you need is the right idea. There's a reason dinosaurs die off.

avatar

vrmlbasic

CyberPower and MPC get massive exposure at the cost of a <$2000 dollar PC (and whatever other money may have changed hands), all able to have been set up with keystrokes and mouse clicks. Sounds much cheaper, time and money wise, than whatever the Guerrilla campaign you could propose IMO.

...what really sucks is that the winner of this will have to add that $1,900 into their income tax calculations. It is long past time to do away with the income tax.

avatar

Lalo67

Not complaining about FB, but just wondering if you guys even announced a winner for the last contest involving "Maximum PC Dream Machine Chassis/GTX 780 Ti Giveaway", or if a winner is kept private, or am I blind and missed the memo somewhere on the page?

avatar

jimmthang

We announced the winner of the contest on our Facebook page a while back. Guy's name is: Atanasio. :D

avatar

Lalo67

Oh, ok, so jump on the FB page for the winner. Got it now, thanks.

avatar

jason2393

Name of the chip meaning the name that's a word, or the name that's a combination of letters and numbers?

avatar

The Mac

enh...i did both...

avatar

Mikey109105

So did I, and I don't mean in two entries, lol.

avatar

cstmtrk9706

the link comes up but when i click submit nothing happens

avatar

The Mac

in before the Quebecains complain they cant enter....

avatar

limitbreaker

It's "Quebecers" btw, not Quebecains. Ty

avatar

vrmlbasic

I thought that they were just "Canadians". They again, QC was a province filled with people who did not adhere to the Canadian stereotype so perhaps they do merit their own special name.

When are they finally going to form their own special country already?

avatar

limitbreaker

That'll never happen, but Quebec province has a majority of its people who are descendants from France who have a culture of xenophobia and fear of losing their identity. While it may be true that if they did nothing they could lose part of their identity, the problem is that their insecurity breeds a lot of arrogance making some of their political decisions very misguided and ignorant. Much like your very own Republicans lol but in a very different way.

avatar

vrmlbasic

I believe that it is more like our democrats.

Is being part of the 2nd largest country in the world really helping QC? Having been to Montreal, a city that has been coasting for ~40 years (eerily similar to Baltimore, except for the violent crime), I would say that it is not. Go independent, get a common-sense government and go for it.

Besides, to get around Canada everyone goes into the USA anyhow so I don't see the restriction of another nation between NS & OT being a problem (Having driven across much of Canada on the "only road" myself, I can see why). It's too darned bad that the ME -> NS and NY -> OT car ferries were killed off due to a tag-team effort of blunders by the USA and Canada :(

avatar

limitbreaker

The problem is that the government that's pro referendum is not a common sense government. Let's just put it this way... They make our liberal government or your Democrat government look like right leaning conservatives.

avatar

The Mac

Wasnt there a group trying to get Quebec to secede from Canada at one point and join the US?

thought i remember something about that a few years ago,

avatar

jimmthang

In before people complain that this is a Facebook contest. #youdon'thavetoapplyifyoudon'twantto

avatar

wolfing

aww, come on! part of the fun of not having Facebook is complaining about stuff in Facebook!
