Wow. I can't believe you guys were hemming and hawing for so long about Nvidia's price gap between the GTX 760 and the GTX 770! NVIDIA is clearly leaving space for a 760Ti. Considering they have done this for the previous two generations, I would have thought this would be obvious.

Where's the links to those video card commercials you promised?

I've done this (the third option with the registry hacks) several times when I needed to install from my W7 upgrade disc onto a clean hard drive; always worked like a charm.

- Josh, the following paragraphs, hopefully, is constructive criticism.. at least I was writing these words with that frame of mind. The podcast has been light years (or "parsecs" if this was written by Han Solo) better than it was before your triumphant 3rd return. But the podcast more often than not still "feels" like an afterthought, a Friday afternoon after work is over chat, something taken lightly by the staff, and not seen as a viable advertising tool to help gain readership to the magazine and website. Your blaming having a magazine to put out and/or the intern did something wrong only reinforces this belief. As a reader of the magazine and listener to the podcast, all I want is your best effort, and I believe you haven't been doing that with the podcast. If you don't have the time to produce the podcast, then just don't make one for that week.. us readers/listeners might not like that but we understand it is because you are trying to produce a high quality magazine. As for the intern(s), does no one double check what they do or teach them how to do things correctly? That isn't very professional and doesn't speak well of your organization or work in general. Twice recently you have commented on manufacturers not sending in items for you to review.. perhaps others in the industry are also seeing this lack of professionalism as well. If it seems like you aren't putting your best effort here, then who is to say you aren't doing the same with the magazine? Rightly or wrongly, it just reflects badly on everything all of you do.

When I made my comment in a post further down this page about "208MB, 320kbps MP3", I wasn't commenting that it was going to take me half an hour to download the podcast, but instead that there seems to be NO CONSISTENCY from one episode to the next one in production. The content has been consistent each episode, but how it sounds has been all over the place, running the gambit of crap to great. The audio version of Podcast 204 was at 96kbps and sounded great.. but 205 at 32kbps was awful sounding!! 206 sounded a lot better (at 320kbps it should) but no music (even though the video version has it) and there was about a 15 second silent gap at about 58:53 (on the video version this silence actually synced the video and audio back up). Who knows how 207 will sound.. so please work on trying to put out something worth the time and effort for your readers/listeners to want to consume. I listen to perhaps 20 different podcasts a week, some technology related, some not, and none seem to ever fluctuate in sound quality as does this podcast. And although they might not have a magazine to put together, am sure most of them are very busy in their own way. Those other podcasts even have time to put in proper ID3 tag info.. the No BS podcast is the only podcast I ever find that is listed as "other" by my MP3 player!! Even your own interns have put together a more consistently better sounding podcast than "the adults" have!! Please step up and show some pride in what you produce!! Yeah, I know it's free and you do the podcast mostly as a courtesy.. but the magazine is consistently great so why can't the podcast be as well?? Is it asking too much to make everyone's 1.5 hours of listening as entertaining and informative as possible??

- Repeating myself here from my previous podcast comments but seems like there was about a week delay between recording and releasing the podcast.. and from what I wrote in the above paragraph, I wonder.. why the long delay?? There doesn't seem to be any post production being done to the podcast (at least not on the audio version) so why not release it any earlier?? Yeah.. you have a magazine to create and you had a holiday.. and/or interns were working on their own podcast.. there always seems to be a reason why the podcast takes at least 5 days, usually longer, to be released. Other tech sites can crank out their podcasts within a day of recording, and I am sure they are also busy doing other things as well!! This delay, plus your bi-weekly schedule, just made your opening discussion about XBone seem so June, 2013.. very stale news especially for a PC centric magazine/podcast. Consoles might be PCs in disguise, then so are phones and tablets, even if they all don't run off x86 chips, and you don't often talk about phones and tablets, so why talk about consoles!!

- Josh, you are falling down on your podcast Nazi duties.. enough of the movie talk!! You all seem to do way too much of it each episode!! Or at least wait until the last 10 minutes when my brain switches off during the so-called "rant"!!

- I don't watch the video version so perhaps this plays out better on there.. but concerning the audio version.. STOP playing the videos!! They took forever to start playing and then added nothing to the conversation!! Put links up if you feel the need (which you said you would do but didn't!!)

- Don Mattrick tried to buy Zynga back in 2010 so he has always had the hots for that company. He is a super rich guy who probably got tired of super duper rich guys telling him to apologize for stupid statements he made during the XBone unveiling. Plus Zynga threw wads of cash his way!!

- Gordon NEVER used an iPad 1? So what is Gordon holding here.. http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u107541/screen_shot_2011-04-29_at_3.39.33_pm.png .. a 1 or a 2??

- People for the foreseeable future are going to keep upgrading their phones and tablets much more often than their laptops/desktops. Apple and Samsung earn most of their money from phones and tablets so are going to milk that for as long as possible. Yes, one day the evolution of phones and tablets will slow like it has for desktops/laptops, and something else (like wearable technology) will take its place in the innovation food chain. Phones and tablets will eventually morph into each other since it makes no sense to have 2 devices that are similar in shape and size, and also do most of the same things.

- Can't believe you guys fell for the marketing hype over "super tower"!! Just a game of semantics, like what constitutes a "phablet"!! All depends on which marketing guy you listen to!!

- Gordon DOES have a beard.. in the "mirror universe".. EVIL Gordon has one that is!!

- As usual, you show all this love for Facebook and Twitter, but none for your own website!! I joined here 7 years ago and will NEVER join FB & Twitter, and because of that, I feel like I am treated like crap because I only visit this site instead of MaxPC's FB or Twitter page!! Why have you deprecated your own website?? Contests and special content seem to be listed on FB more than on this website.. you never mention podcast comments written here. the forums are basically barren. Most everything seems to only happen on Facebook!! Please explain why this is!! Does MaxPC make more $ through FB ads than it does it's own site?? I really would like an answer to this!! Give me a compelling reason to join FB and visit the MaxPC FB page!!

- Chris Zele, in the first intern podcast, said that Gordon was very nice to him during the interview process. Maybe Chris is now acting like that kid did with Data in the Star Trek:NG episode "Hero Worship". Or perhaps just being in close proximity to Gordon makes anyone want to swear a fucking bunch!!

- According to the "book of knowledge" (AKA Wikipedia), the Millennium Falcon is a "highly modified YT-1300 light freighter". Probably during his modifications, Solo used up some of his storage space for his modifications. He probably did what people do who try and smuggle illegal drugs across the US/Mexico border.. they don't just pile everything in the trunk of a car or bed of a truck.. instead the drugs are hidden in mouse hole size cavities of the car/truck body. Solo probably had something similar that was very effective but also probably very limiting in the amount he could transport. If he was high up on the smuggling food chain, he probably just try to deal with extremely rare commodities that didn't take up much room on his ship.

- YEAH.. Gordon kept his "bash Apple no matter what" streak alive with his "secretaries using Macbooks" statement!!

- Another WEAK "rant".. last time Gordon needed prompting on what to rant about.. and this time seems as if I have heard Gordon go off on his building's bathrooms a couple of times already. And what a total surprise.. Gordon venting about something Star Wars related.. like that hasn't been overdone 20 times by now. About the only things Gordon hasn't comment on is the state of the bathrooms in the Mos Eisley Cantina.. or does the Millennium Falcon even have bathrooms!! No wonder Chris wants to swear a lot!!

- Thought that, since it has been such a hot topic in and outside of tech for about the past month, you would briefly discuss (in a non-political way) the NSA "spying" topic in terms of how it impacts internet users and consumers, as well as what measures might be used protect one's self better from this "snooping".. but no dice.

I agree with several of your comments. Sound is sporadic and no matter how well I hear everyone else, I can barely understand Tom.

I've listened to most of 206 and I never thought about Gordon's comment and how this is 2 hours of their time. I guess since I enjoy it so much, I never thought they would consider it "work"...but I guess it is. So thanks, MPC, for continuing to do it.

Personally, I would rather have a "rough" podcast every two weeks, than a well polished one that comes sporadically every couple months.

Two more comments - Don't "mention" your magazine - sell it! Remind people that a subscription is an amazing deal and they'll get exclusive content before it's published to the website.

And you really needs to promote the website and forum (and by constantly leaning on FB and Twitter for material, you're definitely neglecting the former). And why not grab a forum thread and discuss that - you do have a Magazine and Forum section you could draw from. And how 'bout a little credit for all the members that offer assistance to people with questions or problems? LatiosXT, Nastyman, pcstudent and many others offer their assistance (I believe) free of charge. And if they are being paid, they deserve it - solid advice from some extremely knowledgeable members.

It's a fair assessment. I don't know how things used to be run but currently it's being tossed around like a football, so we're going to try to standardize it so we don't have these wild fluctuations from episode to episode.

Regarding Facebook and the site's comments, if you want to type up something brief to be read on the next one I'll be happy to read it. We use FB/TW for questions to answer because people reply immediately and we get more of a reaction there than we would here. We make no money from Facebook, but we do post a lot of behind the scenes stuff there so you should check it out. If you're not into it, I understand, but you're missing some cool content.

No offense but ---> TL;DR

you probably could have said all that in half the text.

Please take your short attention span (and lingo) back to Reddit. I did read the whole comment above and I agree with most of it.

Nice podcast as usual gentlemen! I enjoyed a break from the interns too. lol

Really disappointing to hear about the heat issues with the 7990 since this was supposed to be the newest "king of the hill" gpu. However, I read that Sapphire is coming out with a liquid cooled "Atomic" version. You guys (MaxPC) really should pick up a couple of these cards when they get released and put them in crossfire since AMD has claimed it scales 1.8x in crossfire. If the liquid cooling takes care of the heat issue and frame stepping can be solved with a driver update, wouldn't this be the ideal card?

Here's a promising video:

I ordered a jumbo Versipack, only disappointment was that they were out of the digital camo print. If Gordon sells them a lot of packs they should give him some kickbacks!

WTF?? 208MB, 320kbps MP3 file?? Nice OVERREACTION to last week's terrible sounding podcast. Just downloaded it but haven't listened yet.. but did scan through it a bit to see how it sounded.. sounds fine but how about keeping it more like 96kbps.. even 64kbps sound fine when everything else is done correctly.

Sorry about that I got a little trigger happy with quality, next week I will use a variable bitrate with a target average closer to that, hopefully it will strike a better balance between size and quality for you!

Thanks for the feedback Josh is determined to ensure each episode is truly kick ass.

208MB is still better than 32kbps -- you can argue that any day. Thumbs up to Josh for noticing (even if it was an overreaction) and also adding the 720p option for the youtube video (although I did notice some out-of-syncing in some locations on youtube, could be a flash issue.)

@Insula:
I would say "get better internet" or complain to your municipality to offer faster internet service if you live in a rural area. The community of Monticello MN caused a massive shitstorm over getting faster internet and the city responded:
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2009/06/monticello-appeals-court-win/

I would also say that 96kbps is also a good compromise (if server bandwidth becomes an issue.) Would be a shame to lose Gordon's subtle variation in voice though in higher bit-rates :)

208mb is about 5 minutes of download even on a bad DSL connection. I love this file size!

My comment had little to do with how long it would take me to download but more about the shifting, fluctuating and varied quality from episode to episode of the sound of the podcast. For further explanation, see my comments/rant/lunatic ravings near the top of this page.
