I need a 3-4TB external drive, and was pricing them out the other day....

I saw a 1TB Western Digital drive "clearance" priced at $90.

The pricing out there makes no sense whatsoever. First and foremost, it's clear that pricing on external drives remains artificially inflated. Beyond that, there seems no correlation between capacity and price, quality and price, or speed and price. Even drives by the same manufacturer seem to have entirely random price points. And they're all obscenely expensive.

I just don't get it.

why bother with a prepackaged drive?

just get an internal and a nice enclosure.

You get more control over your interfaces option that way as well
