Didn't Newegg evolve from Egghead Software stores? What goes around comes around again apparently.

Northern California got snubbed again in my book.

First with Portillos(Midwest Restaurant)opened in Buena park CA and Morena valley CA

Now with Newegg! Thousand Oaks! BAH!

I like the idea. It's almost a consultation expo. Problem is, what is the chance they'll have the exact two or so products you're scoping out?

Still, I can't wait for the NYC store.

Newegg has been garbage since they switched from FedEx to UPS. That's not a hack against UPS, though - I'm sure Newegg just contracted for the bottom-barrel service. I do sometimes still shop their website, only to finally place my order with Amazon - Amazon's free two-day shipping is actually free (no bogus rush processing fees) and actually gets to me in two days. I feel sorry for the sucker that goes to their "store" on a Friday afternoon and doesn't get the stuff he buys until after the next Tuesday.

I'm rather annoyed that they stopped offering Purolator shipping up here in Canada.

in my area its LaserShip. They are aweful. They just leave it anywhere, and deliver at weird times when no one is around.

Does this mean in CA they will have to pay tax now when they buy from NE?

avatar

You have to pay tax regardless of whether the retailer collects it or not. It's called use tax, and for most tax filers it is the most difficult part to properly calculate (because most folks don't accurately record all the small purchases they make through Steam, iTunes, Amazon, etc). Some states just look at your AGI and automatically charge you for everything less than $1,000 or so.

Use tax is BS. So much for the grand vision of the states actually competing against each other, lowering taxes and streamlining government.

...the state should not have access to my AGI.

The role of the state in ensuring a better and more perfect Union died with the Civil War.

avatar

The Mac

and how many people do you know who actually fill out their use tax on their state return?

If i see another Best Buy hater i'm going to explode

Too bad. I worked there for a couple years. They treat their employees like garbage and run off anyone who's actually competent. I have every right to hate them. Now go ahead and explode.

newegg has been trying its best, but its getting expensive so they have been doing their sharpest for the bargain shoppers. i got a promotional code for 15 dollars off for any purchases over a hundred, one-time use.

avatar

The Mac

yeah, they used to be the cheapest, not so much anymore.

Yeah Newegg is putting their big boy pants on. They've grown up as a company are turning mainstream. I wouldn't be surprised to see pricing more inline with other traditional brick and mortar electronic stores. Especially with the advent and push for Taxation online. Everything will revert back to walking into a store because pricing online with in store pricing will be the same.
